I would like to use my LCD tv as a monitor for my future desktop, but it doesnt have any DVI inputs. Is there any issue in using a DVI to HDMI adapter and then connecting the system to the tv as such? (My tv is a Panasonic 32" 720p.) I'd just like some input before I buy my system.

Yah I have a 32 inch sanyo use it as my only display. I set a desk up right in front of it and used a DVI to HDMI adaptor got for like 6 bucks looks as sharp as ever. so there shouldn't be any problems
you'll have to play around in the nvidia controll pannel to get it set right, but a resolution of about 1280 x 720 works for me. Edited by Bouke285 - 02 Oct 2008 at 10:02pm |

The MOST inportant thing to remember about video quality is its only as good as your cables. I use and recomend monster m1000 ultra Hdmi cables and the monster dvi to hdmi m series adapters. the price of both may be high but you will see the differance. I use them on a samsung hl52a850 hdtv and a t240 monitor. Amazon has a good price on both.

The connection either works or doesnt when its digital, over priced HDMI arent any different then normal 10$ cables as long as the connections are good. Edited by RiceEatin2000GT - 18 Oct 2008 at 3:05pm |

(Don't get the impression it's only for PS3, remember, HDMI cables are universal for any sort of hardware.)
Pros: Works great! I have no HDMI cable on my 360 right now, but I used this one with my ps3, and it blows the 360 out of the water in all games' graphics! Plus, its one of the cheapest you can find! 9ft isn't really needed, but is still a plus. Cons: Only one: They say it's 1080p, but it's actually 1080i for almost all HDTVs. Then again, I don't have an HDTV that supports 1080p, and neither do most people, so this isn't really a big concern. And 1080p/1080i don't have huge differences anyhow. Other Thoughts: Don't buy those $100+ monster HDMI cables. And don't buy those $5 intec cables. Truth is, they're all the same quality. My friend has a monster, and I have this, and Bioshock, Ratchet and Clank:ToD, and Resistance look exactly the same with both cables. However, the extremely cheap $5-10 cables BARELY upscale the quality. So, in other words, this is the lowest price you can go to get a great HDMI cable. |

OK if that guy thinks there is not a big difference between 1080i and 1080P its because he does not have a 1080P TV to know the difference.
and if he can't get that right, I give zero creditability to the rest of his review, cause obviously he does not know what he is talking about. second many people now in days have 1080P TVs. I'm not saying expensive cables are good or bad. I'm just saying this: if your cable can't carry the signal as good as the next cable, then its inferior. |

Hrrrm my mistake for posting that guys review then.
I just agree with the review regarding the necessity to avoid buying Monster Cables. Hence why I posted that one in particular. Edit: Wait, so you would still recommend buying $5-$10 HDMI cables? Edited by Axel Daemon - 18 Oct 2008 at 5:16pm |

I have used 3 different hdmi cable to see the differance on my samsung HL52A850 hdtv and T240 monitor. The cheap one would only use 60hz and showed motion blurr and digital noise even with DNR set to high. It also would only use 1080i and not p. The midrange one ($60) could use 120hz but still had digital noise and could use 1080p. My monstercable m 1000 ultra used 1080p, 1920x1200, 120hz and took digital noise away from every component hooked up with the cable even with DNR off except for nonhd cable channels wich had slight digital noise at times. All cables are gold plated and say they support 1080p and 120hz. You can get the m 1000 ultra on amazon for $100

It'd be nice if you mentioned the brands of the other ones.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI Secondly, there's a strong chance that the previous cables before Monster's that were used were of a "different" HDMI version. (Latest version is 1.3c) Version 1.0 was definitely limited to 60hz at 1080P which seemingly fits the cheap cable. |

I think instead of discussing weather hdmi cables different or not, we should simply be telling people to make sure their cable supports 1080P.
Cause if it supports 1080P, cheap or expensive will not matter, you can do 1080P. your thoughts? |

Agreed, though in Daygn's case, some cables seem to have some digital noise to them (how bad of noise, is the question), and definitely there was something wrong with the cheap one lol.
And there's also bandwidth... but at this point and time, so long as you make sure the cable is at least ver 1.3, then there shouldn't be any problem. So I wouldn't trust a brand that fails to mention what version they have. |

Not sure what brand they were. Got them from a buddy of mine and he did not say what brand they are but he did say they are 1.3's. he tryed both and had a crappy picture. But the m 1000 got rid of the fuzzies and blurr.

A single link DVI cable can only output resolutions up to 1920x1200. You need a dual link DVI cable for any resolution higher. |

Look here to see if your DVI cable is single or dual link:

For the life of me, I've only seen the bottom row of cables ever being sold, I don't think they sell the middle row in stores nowadays. Least to me they don't.

you have to remember that your source is dvi, so even tho you get an adaptor you don't get the audio nor the transfer rate of hdmi.
so in short you will really get none of the benefit of hdmi since your source is dvi. so go dvi, if you have the cable already then use the hdmi but understand that you are not getting true hdmi since your source is dvi. Edited by DST4ME - 04 Nov 2008 at 5:16pm |
