HDTV's vs. Traditional Computer Monitors

Hello everyone, please bear with me. I'm new with this kind of stuff

I am planning on purchasing a Digital Storm Syndicate within a few months. I'm not going to list all of the specs right now but I will say that I'm planning on getting the highest end CPU and GPU's possible (was thinking about 2x Nvidia GTX 590's). Anyway the system will be high end so my question is this:

I'm VERY interested in doing a three monitor set up. I am NOT interested in any 3D configurations. I would like to have large monitors which got me thinking about possibly using HDTV's rather than traditional computers monitors. Which is generally better? Personally I think that three HDTV's would be a nice configuration due to the larger screen sizes. But I also here that, traditional monitors are higher quality - nicer crisper images with more supported colors.

Again I'm still learning about display options in general so have mercy!

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You might want to post the configuration you want because just from hearing about 2 gtx 590's i can tell you will need help. since that's probably the worst idea possible :/

Listen you should really talk to us before you buy, so that you get the most power for your money, there is a lot of bs info out there, first thing I can tell you is don't get quad sli 590 (2 x 590) its a horrible idea and will get beat by tri sli 570/580.

for pc use and gaming you are better off with monitors.

Most important thing about a monitor is its panel, right now there are 2 major ones, TN and IPS, IPS has superior picture quality/clarity.

depending on your budget from lowest price to highest:

Dell UltraSharp u2312

Dell UltraSharp U2410M

Dell UltraSharp U2410

Dell UltraSharp U3011 30"

Now those are some good IPS panels, there are others but much more expensive.

Alright, I took a look at those IPS monitors and read up about them. I now see the point of monitors over HDTV's. Regarding the GPU's I haven't looked into them that much either so I'll be doing quite a bit of research prior to purchasing the machine. I mainly intend to use it for gaming and daily work with Adobe CS5, but that is subject to change too so I have a lot to think about.

well post your config in the config section of the forum and let us look it over for you, that is what we do here for others, we have done the research, we know the facts from the bs on the net/reviews, let us help you with what we know, and give you the facts then you decide what to get based on facts

One more question regarding the IPS monitors if you don't mind

I have been looking around at various brands and sizes. It seems that most people lean towards the Dell monitors (similar to the ones you mentioned earlier). They seem reasonably priced for what they offer. I don't need absolute top of the line but I'm willing to dish out ~$1500.00 per monitor. Are the Dell IPS monitors my best bet for that price range or are there better ones that I have yet to discover?

for that price the u30 is a great IPS panel, I doubt you find others like it or at that price range.

NEC has some great IPS panels but their prices are crazy for the good ones.

IMHO computer monitors vs. "traditional" TV monitors...heh, I'm starting to regard computer monitors with more respect than HDTVs. Higher res, better display tech (IPS is very rare in HDTVs), similar if not lower cost.

I believe the U30s are $1400'ish.

Look for a coupon too, they go on sale once a month or something depending.
