Is it me or the company making gaming rigs doesnt provide a nice set of headphones available for purchase? Who frags w/o headphones?
I dare you to go to any lan and find a guy playing FPS w/ a pair of speakers.
Unless i missed a section of your site where you can buy em, please direct me to it.
This is in no way meant to diss DS.
... but really? Where are the headphones!?

This is a very valid point. If boutique pc makers are going to offer other accessories, headphones should be in there, especially if speakers are given as options, IMO. It should be easy enough to contact a few manufacturers and ask for demos plus see about decent package deals. For pure music, I recommend looking at Grado and Sennheiser first. They are both extremely accurate with Grado being more musical, while Sennheiser is more comfortable. Sennheiser has gaming headsets, but I don't know if Grado wants to step into that category. They are music oriented. Nice people though and open to new ideas. I've spent time with the owner John Grado and he's very down to earth. Of course, the Razer gaming headphones are out there and seem good too. To make other choices, you'd have to go to the shows.

Why do cordless headphones sound like a pain in the @$$ to me?
Microwaves, etc. will probably put a nice dump on the quality of sound youll get out of em, not to mention the battery up-time/charge time. But thats just an opinion and i never had a pair myself.
Still... waiting for DS rep to explain this little predicament. Edited by Nomak - 14 Sep 2008 at 2:43pm |

I don't have no problem with my phone at all at its cordless and it runs on 5.6GHz, there are headphones that use the same bandwidth.
my current ones are OK also but moving from room to room is not that great, but this one runs on RF. |

I have a pair of Stax Lambda electrostatic headphones from way back. They were once the reference standard, but personally I find all the Grado series headphones to be great quality for the money at all their price points. Their reference series is the best. My RS-1 headphones (@~$695) are the best I've reviewed or listened to at any CES with one exception. The Sennheiser Reference electrostatic headphone with vaccum tube amplifier for approx $15,000 is prolly the best I've ever heard. Frankly, I prefer my Grados for the more realistic bass. |

It's still a bit scary how a "sound system" realistically prices ALOT more than a computer by itself. It's insane;;;
And I still don't know what -- You know what I may as well ask. Since I decided to go with the Sennheiser PC350 for the gaming headsets. But I also wanted a headphone for the pure sound quality of it. So decided to try and purchase HD650 in the future. When I researched into those, it just lead one thing to another. I would need an amp at the very least... and those are might expensive... Anyways have you heard of Zu Cable/Audio? I read a review that mentioned they had cables speciifcally for the Senn HD650, these ones. Are they all the hype they're given, or they just a bunch of hot air, like Monster Cable is when it comes to the video/audio cables for PS3 and so on? |

Unfortunately can't answer for you lol. I barely scratched the understanding of headphone equipment and what goes with what >_>; Check newegg maybe? I don't even know what your "sound preferences" are. (Heck I prefer to be balanced,--
Scratch that. I guess I do sorta. With onboard audio. I open the Realtek Audio Manager, and activate "Powerful" under the Equalizer, everything just sounds better with that one heh. Any idea what category that puts me under? |

not really but I think the 5.6GHz is much more solid, my phone is on that frequency and its solid, I don't care what is going on, the sound is perfect.

Hrrrm actually I think the purpose of blue tooths was that no matter how far you were, it would work or something. My mistake if that was the case.

My question wasnt what kinds of headphones you could buy for 600$+ (which youll probably never take to a lan simply because of the price tag), there are plenty of good headphones around 200$ range for gaming not listening to music.
The question was why do you provide speaker systems but not headphones? Edited by Nomak - 15 Sep 2008 at 10:11am |

Sorry, didn't mean to threadjack. I was actually agreeing with you in that it would make sense to offer headsets too. Especially since it's hard to know what's truly good without going to the various electronics shows to see what's new and all. BTW, I guess I failed to mention that the entire Grado line scales well and IMO are the best in each price range starting at $60. Sennheiser also scales well, but at the lower price points are bass shy in some units. Someone did mention cables though. I'd like to point out that every piece of wire in the audio pathway has a direct and cumulative effect upon the outcome. That is to say, if you don't know how close to industry standards a part matches in all categories, it may very well be reactive to your system and may sound worse or better. The final decision should rest upon listening with your equipment. If I were truly interested in getting the best gaming headset, I would personally go to a store and listen to different models and then narrow down the choices by listening on a similar system. Most optical drives in pcs are standard cheap stuff, so that's not too big a deal to compare with. The thing to try and match up would be the output of the audio. Most high end mobos use the same audio chips, so comparision is just a matter of grabbing a top notch pc and listening to the various headsets. Let your own ears decide what's best in the end. P.S. Bring along a few of your fave CDs that you are very familiar with for listening comparisons. Edited by widdlecat - 15 Sep 2008 at 3:57pm |

I didn't mean it like that, I just know that you spend alot of time reviewing headphones I've got little to no experience there. Alex I think has looked into headphones but I can't really speak on that subject not my department.
I think the Razer ones are nice for LANs, I've got a bunch of plantronics ones I use just for vent and MMO stuff. |

Well I know audio headphones, but have no use for gaming headsets so really haven't researched them. If for some reason they ran cable 20 miles down the highway from town and then a couple miles down a dusty road, I could have broadband and, thus, VoIP and then a need for headsets. I'd first look and see if Grado had a headset, then look to Sennheiser. Third choice would be Razer only because of the word on the street. I'd have to listen to a pair before I bought it though.
If lan parties existed in Missouri, I suppose I'd try finding something that went in the ear with an over the ear mic loop or something if there are any. Hmmm... well, I just dunno. Edited by widdlecat - 15 Sep 2008 at 4:10pm |

How would everyone feel if we started offering the Razer headsets? Or is there a particular headset other then Razer that everyone seems to enjoy and would purchase from us if we offered it?

Aside from Razer, I think the only headphone brands that everyone seems to like may be from Beyerdynamic, Sennhesier, and let's see..... Tritton? Not sure about the last one, but Beyer and Senn are up there when it comes to headphones supposedly lol.
