Hello DS community!!
I am replacing my heatsink because my core is idling at around 45 C. Under load it gets close to 70 C which is a few degrees from the max recommended. I currently have the stock intel heatsink here: http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=D60188-001-NB&cat=FAN I want to use this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835101013 Is that ASUS one any good? It has a good CFM and RPM, but i want some opinions before i blow 20 bucks. Thanks!! Also, this is a great thermal paste right? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835100007 Edited by USMC1419 - 01 Dec 2008 at 11:34am |

Best thermal paste is OCZ Freeze.
That cooler isn't going to perform so well, it's looks frighteningly close to Intel's stock cooler. What is your budget for a heatsink/cooler? |

You don't think 54 CFM @ 4300 RPM will cool it well? My stock one pushes at 23-2700 rpm. No idea what the CFM is but i'm guessing its 30ish.
Right now with shipping with thermal paste, im at 35. cant spend much more at all. |

USMC1419,
I got your VM, so I thought I'd chime in here. The stock cooler should be very adequate with your CPU (if you are not overclocked), 70C load is pretty high for a non-overclocked CPU. If anything perhaps the heatsink/thermal paste itself just needs to be reseated/redone. I agree with Radical, the Asus cooler you posted looks nothing more than the standard heatsink design. I would personally not recommend it. If anything, yes it will probably cool better due to the faster RPM and CFM ratings, but be warned that at that RPM speed, the fan is going to be LOUD! |

intel? well.... theres the Arctic Cooling freezer: http://www.arctic-cooling.com/cpu2.php?idx=79&disc= i have the AMD version, best 30$ i ever spent in cooling, EVER. i have the AMD version, it keeps my X2 4400+ at a idle 43c(best yet!) with the stock amd fan, i got a risky 62c, then a Zalman CNPS 8700NT at 60c. for the performance you get from the AC freezer, its worth it, all fans were cleaned, and applied with AS5 and given 5 months to break in, even the freezer stock thermal stuff is as good as the as5 as well! BUT BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING, check if the cpu is properly seated AND if dust is covering up the fan fins, my friend just called a few hours ago and had the exact same temps, |

Why get AS5 when the OCZ has no burn in and cools better?
