you can do what you want for half that price.
Key components would be 8gbs of ram, 2x gtx 680s in sli, and an i5 processor. Look at the Dreadnought lvl 2. Bf3 on pc has become much easier to run over the year with better drivers from both companies. I run it with 2x amd6970s in xfire and i never dip under 60fps on ultra settings on a 1920x1200 monitor. Check this out. ^^^ I would go with that, and put the rest of that money into getting a really nic keyboard, mouse and high res monitor(s).
Now, there is something I would change if you really insist on spending close to your limit on the tower alone. Going from 2700$ to 3700$ with the same specs, except upgrading the 680's to 690's, or Titans would get you closer, and probably keep your system relevant until Battlefield 7-8 comes out lol. I also might suggest upping the ram to 16GB. 8 is fine for any game, but in a system of this caliber, it just seems lame to only have 8GB inside lol. Going up to an even higher level processor might be good to, although not vital. If you did, I would seriously suggest adding water cooling. Perhaps even using water cooling for your current build anyways. |

16gb of ram might seem lame but 8gb of ram in 2 lanes runs better than 16gb in 4 lanes, for gaming anyway. And on the gpu's i dont know but i dont think you can turn off half of a 690 card for games that dont support sli. Which at this point MANY games dont support it. Thats why i suggested sli two cards.

I would go with Solidus1833's build with a couple of changes. Sli 670 will give almost the same performance for less. Go at least Stage 1 overclocking. Add in HDD. The WD Black is the best. That SSD will load up real quick. Grab the free t-shirt.
Good luck. Edited by bprat22 - 19 Mar 2013 at 4:05am |

All this advice is really helpful so far. To make sure I'd be getting the right thing. I'll be using the newest Benq 120hz 3d monitor but on 2d. I want the system to be able to run at 120hz without dipping. I also want the system to be pretty stable and last several years as it's not everyday you have a great amount of money to use for a ocmputer. Thanks so far for all the replies.

you wont have to worry about dipping. after 60hz you wont notice anything. So running at 120 andyou dip to 60 you wont even notice.
