Hello folks this is my first post here on the the DigitalStorm Customized Systems forums. Cheers to you all!!

I am planning on buying a new gaming system very soon depending on when I can scrape up the moolah. I currently own an Old trusty Dell Dimension 8200 that I have had about 6 years. It has been a very stable and dependable system for me.Over the years I have upgraded it quite abit as you can see below.
P4 2.4 ghz processor
(upgrades are below)
1024 mb Ram
ATI x1600xt 520 mg AGP graphics card
New Razer AC1 Barricuda Gaming Sound Card
New Razer HP1 Gaming Headphones
New 24 " LCD/DSL  High Definition monitor
New Logitech G-15 keyboard
New Razor Copperhead  mouse /w/Razor Mousepad

At the current moment I can play about any game out there from old DOS/Win 98 games to the latest games like Oblivian/Two Worlds/Gothic 3/ BioShock/FEAR/The Witcher/Prey/LotRO/D&DO/Quake 4/WoW/Guild Wars (and these I play very well) and on and on and on ..You get the picture I am a PC gaming fanatic..

BUT NOW.....I know that with the dawn of great games like Crysis and the advent of the Age of Conan, which I simply must play,my Dell is on its last legs... sheds a tear sniff sniff...

I have been researching  and comparing different companys ( Dell/ Overdrive PC/Alienware/Northwest Falcon / HP Blackbird etc etc etc.) prices and services for a long, long, long time.I believe now my search has finally ended here at Digital Storm.I have come to this conclusion  because I  feel you folks give us gamers what we want without taking us poor saps to the cleaners. Your service and support seems to be at an optmum level as well.....Soooooo I feel I cannot go wrong putting my trust and hard earned moolah into one of your awesome systems.

Now to my concern..... As you can see from above I love playing old , old, old PC games as well as the very latest cutting edge games.... My new system must be able to function well in each game scenerio....I have been thinking about going with a Duel Boot system with Win XP PRO 64 and Vista Ultimate 64. Is this the only way for me to go considering my gaming habit....Will going 64 bit  hamper my gaming experience (old & new)or will it be a solid plus all the way around?

Thanks for reading my post and hope to get some good responses from you folks!!

you need to go dual boot 32bit and 64bit but I'm no expert in games so lets see what others say.

as for DS, you have come to the right place I too am a dell customer (XPS) but I'm tired of getting systems I can't update.

DS got the best prices for quality products and all of it can be upgraded unlike dell ;)

I'm waiting for nehalem so I hope to have them build mine around october so till then I'm gonna be jealous of you guys that have yours or ordering.

from doing my home work I don't think we can go wrong with these guys

Personally, I would dual boot XP 32 bit, and Vista 64 bit. That should give you full compatibility with just about everything. Sure, your XP 32 bit OS won't recognize more than a little over 3GB oF memory, but it doesn't need it either. XP *flies* on 2 GB.

tyler I was thinking vista 32bit instead of the xp 32bit and with sp1 coming out vista 32bit will be able to see all 4GB of ram.

what do you think?

"See" and "use" are two different things Wink.

Being able to report the fact that 4GB has been installed is not the same thing as being able to address 4GB of RAM. This is a mathematical limit. 2^32= 4294967296, and there's is just no getting around that. That's 4GB of addresses for a 32 bit OS to see every device in your system, plus itself. You will top out at around 2.5 to 2.85 using Vista 32 bit.

Microsoft probably just got tired of taking phone calls and emails that started out with something like "Vista broke my computer, I installed 4GB and it says there's only 2.85 in there!!!Angry", so in service pack 1, they had Vista report how much RAM was installed.

With SP1, Windows Vista will report the amount of system memory installed rather than report the amount of system memory available to the OS. Therefore 32-bit systems equipped with 4GB of RAM will report all 4GB in many places throughout the OS, such as the System Control Panel. However, this behavior is dependent on having a compatible BIOS, so not all users may notice this change.

that is what their tech center says. sounds like what you are saying

Yeah, they're not trying to hide it or anything (not that they could if they wanted to). For single boot, I don't see a reason not to do the 32bit version of Vista, as it will offer pretty good overall compatibility.

Running a dual boot though, if it were me, I'd rather split it up between XP 32 and Vista 64. Something tells me that I would end up spending most of my time on Vista 64 and whatever issues I might encounter would be more likely avoided by going the XP 32 bit route. Having two versions of Vista just seems a little redundant.

Thanks DST4ME and Tyler for for replying ! I was wondering if the XP Pro on the dual boot offer on the system config page for XP Pro & Vista Ultimate 64 bit is 32 bit?
