Hi, I'm new to Digital Storm Forums. I was looking at the Digital Storm Marauder Level 3 because it standed out the most out of all of my options. I was considering a Alienware x51 because its light and doesnt take much space but for the same price i could get a more powerful Marauder. I was also deciding whether i should get an Alienware m14x since my new computer will be for school. What do you suggest? The good thing about laptops is that it can easily be moved from place to place but if i take it to school i dont want it to get damaged or become wet or attacked by water
. A desktop u get a better bang for your buck but it cant be moved. I have some questions about the Marauder level 3.Generally how much noise does it make when playing games such as Battlefield 3, or when simply using word, the internet? Does the Marauder Level 3 use a lot of energy? Laptops generally use less energy then a desktop so i was wondering how much it would use. (im currently using a macBook pro). Thanks in advance ![]() |

Hi NepentheZ...... Its tough to say exactly the noise level and power usage of a computer. But, in general, the Marauder is a Corsair Vengeance C70 and Anandtech.com did test the case. With a little quieter graphics card, the gtx560, the case posted a 44 db under load and about 30-35 db idle sitting close. As far as energy used, a good guess would be 300 watts under load. Maybe a bit less without overclocking which the Marauder doesn't have. These are ballpark figures. Hope this helps.

Hi NepentheZ and welcome to the forums.
Here is a review of the HD 7850 Graphics card that is in the Marauder 3. The total system power consumption under load (as you can see in the chart) was measured at 289 watts. bprat22 is right on the money with his estimate.

I've had friends with bad experiences with Alienware laptops - including having one up and die right in front of us. Don't know if the added price for the name is worth it, comparatively.

Ok guys i have decided i will either go with Digital Storm or Origin. Both have about the same support, US dedicated service, 72 hours of stress testing, expert packaging, except origin offers a wooden crate, etc. However Digital Storm offers better computers in my budget. Also what would be better for school. The Marauder level 3 or the X15. Dont jump at me and say clearly the x15 since its a laptop. Idk if i will be going to take it to school because i dont want to put pressure, spill water, etc. Also i havent seen any reviews on the x15 so yueah.

Ha Ha, most people, including me, would say a desktop because it gives better bang for buck as far as gaming is concerned.
I would always prefer a gaming desktop+ a cheap laptop as my go to set-up. However, if you HAVE to do gaming on move, then, I guess there is no other option. |

Hey there and welcome to the forums!
From my experience Alienware is a critically inferior choice to Digital Storm and I am sure others, such as xii, agree with me on this one. xii actually wrote an entire article or two in these forums explaining his experience with Dell. I just can't find them right now, or I would put a link here... Anyways, since you are using a MacBook Pro right now, you are in a similar situation to what I was in... and still are, until I get my computer from DS. Feel free to check out my thread in the General Discussion section titled "Why did YOU choose Digital Storm?", if you haven't already. I put my whole story into that one and why everybody should choose Digital Storm.
Oh, and I would choose a desktop, however that is just me... Edited by Hexagonal - 11 Jun 2012 at 12:49am |

DS also offers wooden crate shipping if you want to go with that shipping option.

If mobility isn't a concern, get the desktop, always get the desktop.
