Topic: help building 10TB machinePosted: 21 Jun 2009 at 12:23am |
|
I would like to build a computer to serve as a home server/media player/movie storage. It needs to be upgradable to 10TB, but 1 or 2 to start off with. It will eventually be accessible through the internet and be connected to a movie projector (HDMI) with 7.1 surround sound. Any thoughts on components?
thanks.

Standard Questions:
What resolution is your TV or monitor?
What's your budget?
Non-standard:
Importance of quality sound?
3D or non-3D?
Need/Want a Blu-Ray player?

16:9 screen ratio, no need for blu-ray, and under a $1000 would be great.
The quality of sound and video needs to be theater-like, since it will ultimately be my home theater.

not sure on the ram, but the machine needs to be fast enough for video playback, like a DVD.

$1000 ? That's gonna be REAL tough here or anywhere for that matter.
And assuming that number is a typo, i meant resolution.. not screen ratio.. though good to know.. what's the resolution? 2560x1920 or what? Or what are we plugging into?

I'm a afraid DS is not the right place for your budget, these systems all start at over a $1000, you need to find a simple mobo, 6GB of ram (if your server needs require it, otherwise 3GB or 4GB will due) a simple GPU, sound card, and a case that can hold all the drives you want, all for under a $1000.
you can always call DS on Monday and explain to them your budget and need and see if they can work any special magic for you. |

You are very welcome, good luck
sorry about the other's comments, they are just joking, some people like to call that having heart around here, I call it a waste of your time but they don't mean anything by it, they are trying to be friendly, they are not trying to insult you, I apologize if you feel insulted ![]() Edited by DST4ME - 21 Jun 2009 at 1:26am |
