I am planning on buying an Apollo with the following specs:

-Intel Core i7 5820k 3.3ghz (six-core)
-ASUS X99 Deluxe
-16GB DDR4 2800 MHz
-1200W Corsair AX1200i
-1x SSD (256GB Samsung 850 PRO)
-1x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 4GB
-H20: Stage 2: Corsair H100i GTX - 240mm Radiator Liquid CPU Cooler

I am having a hard time deciding between the two monitors:
Asus 24 inch VG248QE Series and Asus ROG SWIFT 27 inch PG278Q

I dont know if the 1440p monitors are reliable since they are new technology. I am used to 21" 1080p monitors, that is what I used to play many games on. Im not sure if I would like the huge 27 inch size on the ROG SWIFT. and i dont know if its worth it to spend an extra $500 for a higher resolution and a few extra video techs.

Sounds like you have a pretty nice rig there! It'd be a shame to waste all that picture on a smaller monitor. If it were me, given the choices, I'd likely go with the 27". I personally have a 27" Samsung that I'm using right now, with another 28" ASUS on the way tomorrow. If you're on your PC a lot, it's probably worth it to go with something a little larger/better. After all, you have to look at it all day.

This may be another option, you could spend a little less ($539) and get this http://www.amazon.com/PB287Q-28-Inch-Screen-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B00KJGY3TO. Then, take the extra $$$ and put it towards either a second 980 or drop down to 2x 970 SLI (EVGA ACX) for the same price as the 27" monitor (a little better than $700). Not to mention, the 2x 970 SLI outperforms the single 980 on benchmarks. Food for thought. Super nice rig! Good luck!

I saw that 4K monitor you posted and I wonder if having 1440p at 120Hz/144Hz would be better than 4k @ 60Hz? Im not really into 4K at the moment, cause its new technology and i dont feel like buying tons of extra video cards. Also, I've read some bad reviews of the new, high-resolution monitors.
These new video cards have DSR, so I can make it look like a higher resolution even though its not. I'm currently hesitating from the ROG SWIFT atm because its so expensive, but I wonder how much the price will go down by July/August, which is when I plan to buy my new rig.

It really depends I guess. With the 980, or the 970 in SLI, you could get pretty high FPS in 1440p or 1080p. Which is great! But, if you want more resolution, the dual 970s (or 980s) with the 4K would be the way, even though you're only displaying 60 FPS due to the 60hz. For me personally, I think 4K is pretty cool and was looking for a way to run it without spending $3k for a monitor and getting dual Titan X's. lol

It's just in what you would prefer I suppose. If your rig is purely for gaming, a higher refresh rate may be the way. Then again, 60FPS in 4K looks pretty darn good, too. Not that you'd hit 60FPS on every game with dual 970s or even 980s (w/maxed out settings), but both cards get pretty close in most cases.

This review helped me with my decision to go ahead and get the 4K monitor, as did some discussion with others. Good luck! Let us know what you decide!

oh, another question, you know the proper way to take care of monitors? wiping off fingerprints and dust, etc, without ruining the screen?

Well, I know that for most of us when we see some dirt, we tend to want to take it off with our finger (or fingernail)... and that can put scratches all over our monitors. Also, I've heard that ammonia-based cleaners are bad for screens (tv or monitor). Based on that, I'd recommend finding some wipes and/or spray (with a microfiber cloth) that don't contain ammonia. Obviously, try to keep from getting your fingers/fingernails on it as well.

have you seen any reviews for the 1200W Corsair AX1200i power supply? I just noticed these new digital power supplies come up, and I wonder how they are better than the regular ones.

I haven't checked them out, yet. I'm all about a little excess, but 1200W is going too far for my rig. lol
