Hi everyone, I bought a system here a few years back and now have a friend (iwantavr4) that is thinking about getting a new system. He registered here and tried to post, but received some error about spamming, so I am posting this for him. He's just looking for any feedback on his build choices.
Budget: $2500 - $3000 Expectations: Maxed current games, hopeful high settings for 2-3 years Usage: Primarily gaming but also video editing Special Needs: None Saved Ticket #: http://www.digitalstormonline.com/comploadmarauder.asp?id=928389 http://www.digitalstormonline.com/comploadenix.asp?id=928388 He also asked that I mention that he is Curious on the differences in the performance between 770 in sli and 780 gtx ti. Hopefully he will get his login issue corrected and be able to ask/answer any questions. Thanks! |

Here is a direct specs comparison between 770 SLI vs. 780 ti.

Of the two systems I'd go with the Enix build. Only change would be the PSU to the 850 RM as it's fully modular. For video editing (depends on software) the 2400 RAM might make a difference but not sure it's worth the money. Also, I always recommend the single best GPU unless you have immediate needs for a 4k or multi-monitor setup then go SLI. Not all games take advantage of SLI (and it scales differently between games that do support it) and almost no editing software will use it. Also, since we don't know the resolution of monitor that's in use, we are kind of shooting in the dark...

Thanks for the responses. Intended current resolution is 1920x1080, but likely intended a little higher (along par with the dell ultrasharps, ~2500x1400). Also no immediate plans on multi-monitor.
Also found this which also makes me think it be better to get a single 780 ti, and if necessary SLI it with another later... on anandtech website page title the-geforce-gtx-780-ti-review This forum wont let me post links and its driving me bonkers! |

Still cant post links, says im spamming im guessing because I signed up today. The ram difference was ~$100 I believe, seemed fairly negligible. Will there not be much difference in RAM between 1600/2400?
Thanks again :) Edited by iwantavr4 - 21 Feb 2014 at 12:28am |

Game-wise most likely not. Video editing, maybe if your doing some really extreme stuff. Probably looking at 1% gain.

That motherboard will not work in the Enix case. The case only supports up to the Micro-ATX form factor. The motherboard is an ATX form factor, thus too big. I do not believe that DS offers any Micro-ATX motherboards that support Thunderbolt.

I was actually wondering that, the case size for the Enix is drastically different, and the 'default' is a m-atx board, I was wondering if the standard board would fit, they offered it under the 'easy mode' - I figured they do some kind of check to ensure it will fit... Good to know, thanks! Also thanks for the memory link, also great info! |

Have another question... Now that you've pointed out the difference in memory, I am actually looking at instead going to 32GB 1600MHz. How is the 'digital storm certified' RAM? It looks like the heat-sinks may be smaller and the brand isn't guaranteed, curious if its worth saving the ~20-30 bucks?
Another question regarding the modular power supply... Is there a way to tell how much power you will need or use..? The possible end-goal is to have another 780 Ti in SLI (just two, not 3) and an additional 16GB in RAM (totaling 32GB). Edited by iwantavr4 - 21 Feb 2014 at 10:49am |

For the little extra money, I'd go with the Corsair Vengeance ram. Its a lifetime warranty and although the taller heat spreaders aren't really needed by most, they certainly don't hurt to have. The DS ram doesn't mention warranty, so I assume it expires with the rig's warranty, but can't say for sure.
The rated psu suggested by reputable testers like guru3d, and the manufacturer, is a 800-850 minimum for sli 780ti. For the oc'd version, it would be a bit more. That's the minimum. I would personally bump it up to 1000w or so. It might be more than you need, but better to be safe. When a psu struggles, you can get crashes, resets, bsod, etc and usually the psu is looked at last. Ram doesn't factor in much, unless you're into oc'ing them. OK... After all the suggestions and internal mulling, I think I have ended up here as a final spec... Any comments?

Build looks good to me.
Grab the free t-shirt. It's the law. If you do add another 780ti with ACX cooler, the Marauder case does have the option to add up to two fans in the side window. The ACX does dump a lot of its heat into the case, instead of out the back like the reference card. First card should be fine. 2nd card might cause heat buildup that side fans will keep in check. Good luck. Edited by bprat22 - 21 Feb 2014 at 1:23pm |

Looks like a good build. You could just set the second drive set as 2x instead of both lines. Just to make sure you understand the RAID level you set mirrors the drives so they are exact copies of each other, so they will only be 1TB of storage.
As, don't forget the free T-shirt! ;-) |

Yeah, I wanted to set the 2nd drive as 2x, but it wouldn't allow (although maybe I should have used the advanced wizard). Definitely on purpose regarding the raid1, I have had it on most of my computers, didn't on my laptop that just crashed, waiting for 2-3 days for a new drive has been driving me nuts (backed everything up, just cant use the computer at all)...
Will also make sure I put a note in there about the fans and ensure its understood both sets of drives should be in RAID 1 (looks like the MB supports this). Duly noted on the T-shirt, I wonder if they purposefully hide it at the bottom :P |

This is one, I can't believe we all missed here, switch the SSDs to the Samsung 256GB 840 Pros, for better performance and warranty, they are the same price as the ones you have selected.

^ First thing I always check are the drive types (Samsung/WD)... Was reading through the post waiting for someone to mention it!!
Otherwise looks like a solid build!! |

Right on, thanks everyone...
Somehow it got switched, if you look at the initial builds I did have the Samsung SSDs, must have screwed up when I did the RAID. I think I am all set, thanks again :) I gotta say, this company, and the people supporting it seem really cool so far, refreshing :) |
