I have just recently come into possession of a computer that i have found at work (for those who don't know i'm a garbage man). I found the Dell Dimension 8300 and thought why not. I took it home and it started right up, but it needed a hard drive. I went out bought a 320GB and installed it. this is where it gets kinda iffy. I didnt have enough money to go out and buy a whole new OS, soooooo i used my old XP disc that my other computer uses (didnt think it could hurt anything). I installed that and it worked great. The problem is when i go to set up a home network between my two PCs neither of them detect each other. So i checked the network settings on the computer i found and it says it needs drivers, a network card and all that jazz but it doesnt specify. I dont know if i should go out and buy a network card and that not be the problem. What should i do?

I went in the control panel. that's where i ran into the problem. The thing is, it just doesn't specify what exactly i have and what i need. And yes it has an ethernet port.

OK this is what's missing LMAO  the Ethernet controller, multimedia audio controller, PCI simple communications controller, and SM bus controller.......Wink where do i get these drivers?! Did i mention i don't have access to the internet with this stupid computer? lol.

Hey yea thanks harleyman I ended up getting a new network card and got my Internet working and everything else. Thanks again for all your help.
