Regarding about getting 2x 570 vs 1x 590 to future proof. My friend told me: "If you're looking to drop $400+ dollars on a video card, and you dont have a ssd in your system, then you're silly." SO i guess i have to get an SSD Then he also says: "future proofing is stupid. why buy a $400 card now, that you aren't going to use, when you can buy it in 2 years when you need it actually for $300 cheaper?" I asked him if he things 1x 570 with SSD will run diablo 3 fine and he says yes so with that in mind, I have the above build, can you guys take a look and comment on my friend's comments? Thanks!!! |

I would agree with this, I feel bad for anyone who doesn't understand the merits of an SSD, regardless of their budget. In fact, an SSD can help cheap crappy PCs or laptops even more than higher end PCs, people don't realize how big of a bottleneck slow HDDs can be.
This is hit and miss, depending on your resolution, the games you play, and your preferred level of image quality. If you like playing all the high demand FPS games with high to max settings and high frame rates then you really have little choice but to pony up for more high end GPU now, or deal with having to turn down the settings. If you don't play those high demand games or you're fine with turning down settings then most certainly you can save lots of money with methods like what he outlined. Anywho, in regards to your build: If D3 is the most demanding game you plan on playing then your build would probably be preferable in the long run, but do yourself a favor and switch to the Corsair 1050HX PSU, and if you need to trim the price some the Corsair A70 cooler will give very similar cooling to the Noctua D14 for $81 cheaper. The free overclock could trim down the price too. But if you do plan on playing higher demand games then another option is the ODE Level 3. Smaller case and PSU, but dual SLI 570s and Intel 120GB SSD. |

What res are you at and are you wanting to also play games like bf3?
so your plan is to go single 570 now and then add a second? no matter what you do (add ssd now, or add ssd later) at the end for balanced performance you want a good ssd, but you don't want to sacrifice other stuff that are important, since you can always add a ssd easy but at the same time, its easy to add a second 570 also. But in 2 years you are not gonna want 570 sli, so adding the second in 2 years is kinda silly. Edited by DST4ME - 22 Aug 2011 at 7:05pm |

yea BF3 is definitely a consideration, gaming at 1680x1050 or something for now, but I could be going as far as 1920x1080.
I thiought the noctua was good ( i was recommended one back then, were they not the same)? What do you mean the overclock would trim the price? I thought it's already in there, regardless of if i want it or not.. THANKS!!! |

you can get the same performance from a70.
at 1680x1050 single 570 should be fine for games like bf3, at 1920x1080 single 570 is not gonna be enough. by free oc he means instead of going with stage 2 oc you go with the free oc option which is 3.9GHz. |

Depends on your res.
but either you go single 570 now with plans to add a second 570 in few months, or you wait for the "670" and start with that, otherwise you gonna endup paying for 3 gpus in one year. or you go single 570 now and then in a couple of years upgrade to sli "new gpu" whatever you do, don't end up in a scenario where you pay twice or three times for the same part/s.
