Im trying to over clock this system over 3.0ghz specs below:

Power Supply: 550W Thermaltake (SLI Compatible) (Silent PurePower Edition)
Processor: Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800 2.93GHz (1066MHz Front Side Bus) (4MB Cache)
Motherboard: Asus P5N-SLI (Chipset: nForce 570 Intel) (SLI Compatible) (Conroe)
Memory: 4GB DDR2 Super Talent at 667MHz
Video Card: nVidia GeForce 8800GTX 768MB (By: XFX) (PCI-Express)
Windows OS: Microsoft Windows XP Home
Cooling: Air Cooling (Certified Digital Storm Heat-sink and Fan (Stage 1 Cooling)
Also added a 120mm fan to the back to pull more out.

is it just me or is it not a good idea to oc with Stage 1 Cooling?
if it was me i would not do this.

You can OC your CPU with the Intel stock fan but you won't be able to OC that much. With your config you probably can get to around 3.2 or 3.3 MAX. There are plenty of guides on the Net that will show you how to OC your board. There's also an OC guide somewhere in this forum too.

I would replace the stock CPU fan and thermal paste before doing anything else TBH.

change the ram to 2x1066mhz instead of 4x667mhz and get a better heatsink.
Pro case with extra fan
Quad Q6600 2.4 OC'd 3.1!
