HI guys,

I travel quite a bit and would like a laptop that's not too heavy. I game (obviously) and would like to be able to run TOR at medium requirements, and most importantly smoothly. I play a lot of League of Legends also but know just about anything can run that game. I would like to upgrade the hard drive to an intel SSD 120gb  (better speed, less power) and was going to upgrade the compound to premium, would I need anything else? Does anyone have the stock wireless card and does it work well? I was looking at the $999 model with tax/shipping and those extra's it came out to about 1300ish. Do these configs sound ok for what I want? I sent a msg to DS about my config and haven't gotten a response back yet, but it's only been a few hours not complaining! Thanks in advance i appreciate any advice.

I wish I would have went with the xm15 instead. I paid $1600 for this guy and I have to say it's one of the best laptops I have had. You system looks really good, i would just go wit hthe i7 2630QM instead of the i5 2430M.

Hi Bron,

What made you want the xm15 instead? Do you really think there will be much a difference between the two i7 vs i5? I've heard people say a good i5 is better than a low i7, but I don't have any proof. is your 17in heavier than you'd like?

Yes the xm15 will be lighter than the xm17. Not sure by how much though. As I use it more for work I went with the i7 just because. ;)

So I just talked online with someone and said the i-5 should be great for gaming and the thermal compound wasn't necessary; with tax brings me up to $1318.25. I would love to purchase this system just wish it was more in the $1200 total range.

I can confirm that the GT550 on my Lenovo can run LoL at 1366x768 at all high setttings, save for shadows. Proc is an i7 2670QM. IMHO 1366x768 is more practical for a laptop, but to each his own.

Without the GT550 on, maximum with an Apple SSD installed (yes, w/e, it's all I have at the moment lawl) is 5 hours.

MSRP for my sys is $1500 or so though, don't expect anything cheap haha. Though I did order mine with a pretty significant discount, I got lucky >.>

The i5s i think don't have hyperthreading, which takes some hits to efficiency.
As for thermal compound, I think it's always a good idea since laptops are inherently a bit toastier than desktops, but the temp difference you get with good past vs okay paste is usually too minimal to justify under a budget.

Thanks for the input ablahblah, I wish I could get a significant discount and I would upgrade a bunch of different stuff... I want to get an i7, Upgrade the thermal compound and upgrade the wireless card if I had the money I guess I might need to just save up some more. I would love someone who has this model to comment on the quality of the product and what I should or should not expect. I just think well I want this and this and then my system is 18pounds and 2grand lol...
