I just got back from Iraq and have been looking for a decent gaming computer, my other is outdated to hell. I'm kinda out of the loop on whats going on now days and I am trying to stay within my budget of 3k, so I can still feed my wife and kids! lol  Is it worth getting the dual boot OS for gaming? Are there many games that have conflicts with Vista?

Let me know what you guys think about the setup and if you have any suggestions.

You going to have to go with a 8800GTS 512 or wait for 9800GX2 because the 8800GTX is out of stock.
The only thing that keeps me wishing on a wishing star.

Welcome home.

Addiction, it's tough to recommend a GPU without knowing what size monitor it'll be paired with.

I'm going to answer the dual boot question with a "yes, it's a nice thing to have". I have a couple of games that just do not like Vista. Every now and again, I'll look at my collection and get the urge to play a title I haven't loaded up in years. It's really nice to have XP for those occasions. Vista does have an XP compatibility mode, but it isn't always perfect. If you are someone that never plays older titles, you can probably get by without XP.

Air cooling will be better in the 850 case. The 950 isn't bad by any means, but the 850 is going to provide better air flow.

Points to consider:

Do you intend to SLi?
Do you intend to upgrade the CPU at a later date?

If you can let us know what resolutions you'll be gaming at, and provide answers to those questions, putting together a suggested build will be much easier.

I have a 19 inch  (Sceptre)  http://www.sceptre.com/Products/LCD/Specifications/spec_x9g_Gamer.htm

I was hoping to get either the 8800GTX or Ultra, but since they are out of stock, i'm planning to go with the 2x 8800GTS 640mb. I'm not a big fan of SLI, but its either that or a single GTS. I usually only play at 1024 by 768, but ive heard ppl say that SLI only helps at higher res?

I do intend on upgrading, but I usually on mess with the GPU and or Memory.

The dual boot sounds nice, i've got hundreds of games and I love to go back through them from time to time, but i read it can be a pain to keep up with the dual OS. Anyway, im posting my new config and i'm hoping to order within a few days. Thanks for the info.

Way to go man.  Welcome to the family.  You've got dishes on Wednesdays which kinda sucks because that's lasagna night.

Nice. The last config you posted and ordered hits every change I was going to suggest. Looks like you were way ahead of me.

Congrats.
