Topic: Help with DSO OC Posted: 04 Jul 2009 at 9:03pm |
So, my computer just arrived and it does not seem that the OC that was done on my system is in place. I mentioned that my 920 was only logging 2.7ghz according to CPUz. I was told by some forum folks that I had SpeedStep enabled and that my CPU speed would ramp up as needed.
This got me curious about what was going on so I looked into speedstep online and ended up going into the BIOS on my last startup. I didn't change anything, but I did notice that Speedstep was disabled and that hypermode was enabled. I looked the Frequency section and found that all were set at the default or stock settings. I am assuming that this means that my system is not currently OC'd.
Would hypermode account for my speed over the 2.66ghz stock 920? And if there was an OC performed by DSO, how would I go about re-instating it?

On a side note. I am satisfied with the computer as it is a major upgrade over my 10 yr old P4 2.33. I only wish that WoW was better at using the newer tech, because my gameplay has not improved significantly.

look in your bios there should be a saved profile, if there is one, load it, it has your OC settings, if not check your notebook and see if your settings are listed in there, if not, wait till Monday and give them a call, they have your settings saved
for whatever reason, your bios reverted to default. Edited by DST4ME - 04 Jul 2009 at 9:40pm |

Thanks for the info. I saw the saved profiles the first time through, but did not want to change anything without more information. There are 8 saved profiles. Would you think that all 8 are unique or would the listing be a standard number of save slots? |

It appears so, but I have to say I'm a bit worried about stability and temps. I would have been much more comfortable with the jump it it came already applied as tested.

the saved profile was tested, for whatever reason when you used your PC the bios reverted back to default.
put your PC under load and run HWMonitor and see what your max temps are |

I just ran 10 min of Prime95 and got a max temp of 72C. That seems pretty good to me even though it wasn't a very long test. Thanks again for the help.

NP, my pleasure, just let HWMonitor run in the background if you are worried, and every now and then check your temps, as long as your temps don't go over 80 - 85c during your use (gaming, work, etc) you got nothing to worry about

Yesterday My wife and I went for the WR on Wprime 1024m, lol I blame her for the mis-calc..so now we are 2nd. lol. Any way I was using HWM to keep an eye on the V reg temp, they use to be 85C and were causing stability problems. I still had real temp open and noticed the temp differences between the two programs. So I ran a quick test again just to make sure. Here it is.

on my machines they are the same/very close (1c) but I don't' have an i7, all the other i7-s I have seen here are the same/very close (1c), I ask others to load them both and lets see what we get.
but if you look at your max temps they are almost exactly the same, meaning that no matter what max temps are the same, and max temps are what we worry about, now which one of the two is right we don't' know, but if the max temps are matching, they both good enough for me. but |

max temp is 3-5 lower with hwm. hence why i said 4c.. lol
It would be awesome if HWM was correct, running 4.5 Ghz with HT on, and staying in the 50's. If I just lower my V core 2 more notches. lol That would be considered "decent". Edited by justin.kerr - 05 Jul 2009 at 9:59pm |

not sure why your temps are 4c different but I have not seen that any place else, as I said I will ask other members to run it also and lets see what everybody gets, but like I said we don't know which one is actually reporting the correct temp.

well I guess realtemp is using a higher tjmax settings, we don't really know what the temps are, some say realtemp is the more accurate but at the end of the day its a guess, but I guess its is better to read the hotter one just to be on the safe side.
for me unless the temp is around 80 - 85c I'm not gonna care about 5c difference for normal/gaming use. |

OK so far I got justin and Jennings386 showing 4c higher with realtemp and I got william2 and Elmpe showing 1c difference.
I will keep searching, lets see if we have a winer out of 10 or 20, LOL I'm sure by the time we figure it out the newer versions will be out and it will not matter, last year around this time realtemp was the one showing the lowest number |

justin according to tpu 3.0 is the latest version, you must be referring to the beta version, beta is not final, I would take the final release over the beta any day, till the beta turns into final release.

I'm glad you got it all worked out. Your temperatures are perfectly in-line for an overclocked system.
