Hi everyone!
Last October I purchased the Vanquish 7 Level 4 computer. LOVE IT! Now I need more hard drive space and want the M.2 SSD. My motherboard is the Asus Intel Z370 Chipset. Can you answer a few questions? Which 2 TB do I get that's compatible (either from newegg or Amazon) My motherboard has two slots to choose from. Does it matter which one I use? Anything else you recommend I know before doing this haha I wanna get the right drive. I see theres a big price difference which is odd. Anywhere from about $200 -$500? Thanks so much for any help! |

There are 2 types of M.2 SSD. One is M.2 SATA III , and it is no better than any other SATA III Drive, and would use or take away SATA bus ports on the board.
You definitely want the second M.2 type...M.2 NVME SSD drives use the PCIE bus your video card slots utilize, and NVME is 5X faster than SATA III drives. SAMSUNG EVO or EVO Pro 2 TB will be the best. Shouldn’t matter which of the 2 M.2 ports you use, but go to the Asus site and look up your Z370 motherboard user guide and be certain. Easy upgrade....

The price difference reflects the speed. A regular SATA SSD is around 4 times faster than a regular mechanical hard drive. For many people, that is plenty fast enough for many purposes. If you are primarily storing and loading games, you will not see a huge difference between a SATA SSD and an NVMe drive. It will definitely be faster, but you're talking seconds. You have to decide if a few seconds saved loading a game is worth paying almost double the price.
Your Vanquish likely came with a small M.2 SATA SSD mounted on your motherboard. You should have a decent feel for how well you think that gets the job done. If you should decide on the cheaper option, I would recommend you purchase something like the Samsung 860 EVO, and leave your second M.2 motherboard slot available for future use. |

When comparing load times for Anno 2205 on my 960pro and regular SSD, it certainly feels like it's much more than a few seconds difference. No way I'd ever revert back to a normal SSD.
