Hey all!  After playing with my new DS laptop, my mom has decided that it is time to replace her old Compaq.  She asked me to pick out a DS desktop that would work well for her needs.  She doesn't play a lot of graphics heavy games so this isn't going to be a super high end build.  I do want to future proof the system a bit.  I don't mind eventually upgrading graphics cards, hard drives, etc. but motherboards and processors are a bit out of my league.

Here is what I have so far. I'm trying to keep the budget around $2000, but there is some wiggle room.  What do you think?

Case: DS Twister Pro
Power Supply: 750W Thermaltake (SLi compatible) Silent toughpower Ed.
Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (2.4Ghz)
Motherboard: nVidia 680i LT Core 2 Quad (By eVGA) (nForce 680i SLI)
Memory: 2GB DDR2 at 667MHz
Floppy Media: No Thanks
Hard Drive 1: 320 GB (Western Digital / Seagate) (16MB Cache)  (7200RPM)
Hard Drive 2: No Thanks
Raid Options: No Thanks
Optical Drive: DVD R/ CD-R/ RW (Light Scribe Edition)
Optical Drive 2: No Thanks
Connectivity: High Speed Network Port
Video: 2x SLI Dual (nVidia GeForce 8600GTS 512MB
TV Tuner: No Thanks
Sound Card: Mother Board Multi-channel High Definition Audio
Physics Card: No Thanks
Cooling: Air Cooled Stage 2
Case Lighting: Blizzard Lightning Cold Cathode (Blue) <- Mom loves this
Cabling: Enhanced Airflow (Blue edition)
Windows OS: Vista Home Premium

What is your mom going to be doing?

You don't need a quad if all she is going to do is word processing and browsing the net.

You do not want SLI 8600... it is a waste of money. A single 8800 GTS 320 or 8800 GT performs better and is cheaper... You don't need SLI unless you are going to be playing at high resolutions or are running multiple displays.

750W is overkill for your build, a 520W will be fine.

Thanks!  I will definitely switch the graphics and power supply.  My mom tends to really multi-task and keep the same computer forever, which is why I was thinking of going with the quad core.  I've seen her playing a game, with a video loading in the background, a virus scan going, and checking her e-mail.  Would a quad with a 620W power supply be overkill (switched to the 8800GTS)?

Switch to the 8800GT, it is 2 dollars cheaper and performs almost on par with a GTX.

620W for a quad and GT is enough.

Sounds to me like your spending a lot more money then you need to. I would go with a 500W powersorce and one 8600GTS.
