I just received notification that my new "Bolt" just passed stage 7 so it should ship shortly.  Got to thinking about setting up the hard drive.

In my old Hailstorm, I had a 1 Tera Byte HHD and I simply partitioned that drive into two 500 GB partitions.

My new Bolt will have a 3 TB HHD  and I'm wondering what some of you do for partitioning.  Six 500 giga byte partitions seems like too many but three  1 TB partitions seems a little large per partition .

Looking for some ideas as to best to handle this much disk space.

By the way, the boot drive is a 240 GB SSD.

Thanks

Arne

I'd just go with 2 or 3 partitions since you don't want to break the drive up into too many partitions.

What will you be using 3TB of storage for? That would also affect how many partitions you'd want.

Congrats on your bolt! What paint did you go with?

Thanks Dom.  Mostly sports analysis video.  So I will have lots of "write/delete" actions, but am also concerned about having so much "space" in a partition that the seek function really slows down.  I optioned for the larger drive for this but haven't had the "riches" of so much space before. Just trying to figure the most efficient break down for it.

My Bolt will be the grey version.  Just noticed that my old fingers typed HHD instead of HDD inn the original post -- Oh well...

Thanks again.

Honestly, partition or no it will take about the same time to read/write till its about 50% full. If you need more than 3TB than just add another drive since its easy to do. Unless you are keeping all the videos you are doing the analysis from i dont see space being an issue as you could also burn final videos and their sources onto a DVD.
