Ok...I want to build a high-end dedicated system for FSX.  I have read many posts at numerous sites and I am a bit confused on how to configure the system.  The biggest question I have is in regards to video cards.  Originally I was going to spec it with 2 295's but I have read complaints about the 295 with FSX.

If you were going to build the ultimate dedicated FSX machine, how would you configure it using DSO?  My budget will allow for a completely loaded machine (water cooling, extreme processor, multiple video cards, etc.)

I want to order the system this week so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Best Regards,
Jeff - AZFlying

fsx doesn't support sli, so anywhere you see sli or crossfire it won't help you.

the 295 is in internal sli so it won't help you.

now if you only use this for fsx and thus you know you will never go sli for other games then drop the psu to a 750w or 650w, if not and you might go sli then keep the 1000w.

Thanks for the reply.  I posted the specs to an order I made.  Please let me know if I am just crazy with these specs.  Would this setup be substantially faster than yours?  I'm sure at some point you pay an incredible amount of money for a small gain.  Have I past that point?

The computer would be used primarily for FSX but I would probably load some other games that can benefit from SLI.  Would the 2nd GTX295 hurt the performance of FSX?  My thought for the hard drive was use one drive for the OS and the other for FSX.  Does that make any sense?

I also put in the higher OC since I added water cooling.  Is that pushing it too much?  My budget can handle the cost of this system, but I want to make sure I am not wasting money either.

Best Regard,

Jeff - AZFlying

Lot of junk in there ya don't really need.

The Killer Xeno Pro won't benefit you if you have any kind of decent internet connection ( most say it's useless ).
You won't see any performance gain with the 2x295 in FSX and most likely it's a marginal boost over 3x275 which is far cheaper and possible. Also, since FSX doesn't utilize SLI, then you're still gonna see better results with a single 275.
Don't buy an SSD right now, prices are dropping and they'll get far FAR cheaper soon. Why water cooling on the GPU's AND the fan upgrade with temp sensor? Not really needed. The 975 is rather unnecessary as well, stick with the 920 or 950 if you're really desperate for power. The 920 can get ya where ya need to go on it's own though. I'd recommend the memory fan kit (not the overclock ) to help with cooling. Oh.. and at your current setup, you may need headphones cuz the zalman's + 295 + 1200W power source will make your computer sound like it's a generator.
Honestly, at the budget you seem to be at, I'd recommend going with what DST posted and see if you like it/can deal with it and then look at your options when things get economical later this fall and further major new releases come out. DS can walk you through upgrades or you can send it back and have them do it. I wouldn't recommend this like 2 months ago but with the "gulftown" processors coming and the 300 series from Nvidia coming out sometime this fall along with big developments in the SSD world, it may actually do you better to have something that works and save the money to get something after all the new cool stuff comes out.

As satsunada said, you build is big waste of money, and no its not faster then my config in fsx, actually its slower, and you got lots of things in there you will never need, like the 1200w psu and other things.

your cpu will be faster but that you will only notice in tasks and not games.

Thanks for the reply.  Will the "gulftown" processors be much better then the I7's?  I will stick with what DST posted and wait until later this fall to see what comes out.  I was surprised at the cost of the SSD's!

Gulftown are going to be 32nm, while the i7s are 45nm.

For FSX and all other games out now and for a while, the current nehalems are excellent.  The 920 is amazing.

Gulftown will still fit a x58 mobo, so you can upgrade to that anytime you like, it has 2 more cores but I'm not sure if you will notice any difference in fsx in that.
