I am getting ready to pull the trigger and buy a new machine. I am looking that the system below. I have a couple of questions:
- What can you OC the CPU to with liquid cooling? - Is it worth overclocking the video card? How much performance gain would I get? I chose liquid cooling on video card because the stock fan on the card is usually really loud (and I've had 3 GPU fans fail). I would guess that liquid cooling on the GPU would allow for some overclocking gains. - I chose the solid state disk for noise and performance reasons. How loud are striped 10k raptors? - I chose Zalman performance fans because Zalman has the reputation of being quiet - is that a good assumption? Any other recommended tweaks for making sure I get a quiet high performance system? Ticket Number: 263568 Total Price with Instant Savings: $3,881.00 Direct Load URL: http://www.digitalstormonline. you have a better chance at maintaining lower temps and a higher OC speed with LC, however with the 920 we have seen it go to 3.8GHz both with air and liquid cooling.
As you said your self, GPUs go bad, if you LC the GPUs, anytime anything goes wrong with your GPU, you will have to send it in, so be prepared to be without your PC a month at a time, my recommendation is to drop the LC from GPU, it can turn out to be a nightmare. I have said this to others before and some after a 6 month hassle finally asked DS to remove their LC on GPU due to the headache it can be. OCing your GPU is pointless but if you should ever need it we can help you with that, its real easy to do, but with a 295 I doubt if you will need it. I don't think Raptor are noisy but there are much much faster better SSDs coming out, my advise is to go with vertex 2 when it comes out
Zalman is quiet but its not gonna be more quiet then the HAF fans, and if you need to crack them up they will be much more noisier. here you go Ticket# 263680 --- Price: $2927 (To see this build click here) Price after current promotion $2752 Copy of Specifications: Chassis Model: Cooler Master HAF 932 Exterior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Interior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Trim Accents: - Standard Factory Finish Processor: Intel Core i7 920 2.66GHz (Quad Core) Motherboard: EVGA X58 3X SLI (Intel X58 Chipset) (Supports Triple SLI or CrossFire) System Memory: 6GB DDR3 1333MHz Mushkin (Highly Recommended) (Digital Storm Certified) Power Supply: 1000W Corsair HX (Dual/Triple/Quad SLI Compatible) (Silent Edition) Card Reader: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 1: Operating System: 1x (500GB Western Digital (16MB Cache) (7200 RPM) (SATA) Set 1 Raid Options: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 2: Multimedia\Data: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 3: Backup\Misc.: - No Thanks Optical Drive 1: DVD±R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 20x / CD-Writer 48x) Optical Drive 2: - No Thanks Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Video Card: 1x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 295 1.792GB (Includes PhysX Technology) Add-on Card: - No Thanks Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Extreme Cooling: H20: Stage 3: High-Performance Liquid Chilled FrostBite System For CPU Liquid Color:Green: Non-conductive High-Performance Fluid (Requires H20: Stage 3 Cooling Package) Chassis Airflow: Standard Factory Chassis Fans Internal Lighting: Internal Chassis Lighting System (Blue) Enhancements: - No Thanks Chassis Mods: - No Thanks Boost Processor: Yes, Overclock the processor as much as possible with complete stability Boost Video Card: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my video card(s) Boost Memory: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my memory Tweak Windows: - No Thanks, Please do not tweak the services on the operating system Windows OS: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Restore Kit: Digital Storm Specialized Recovery System (DVD Image Based) Virus Protection: - No Thanks Office: - No Thanks Benchmarking: - No Thanks Install/Test Game: - No Thanks LCD Display: - No Thanks Surge Shield: - No Thanks Speakers: - No Thanks Keyboard: - No Thanks Mouse: - No Thanks External Storage: - No Thanks Exclusive T-Shirt: - No Thanks Priority Build: - No Thanks, Ship Within 5-10 Business Days After Order Is Successfully Processed Warranty: 3 Year Platinum Care Extended Parts & Labor Warranty |

dst4me does give good advice,i really didn't think of liquid cooling the gpu was a big hassle and i would agree i wouldn't want to be without my computer for a month if it was up to me. |

When is the Vertex 2 coming out? Any idea?
I'll dump the liquid on the GPU, but I really would like the performance and quiet of the SSD. |
