Will a single 8800 GTS 512mb be enough to play at a rez of 1920 x 1200 on a 24 inch wide screen monitor?

Thank those for their time for who ever reads my questions.Smile

It probably depends on the game.  I have the 8800GT, and I can play NWN2 and, if I recall, Half Life 2 at that resolution with ease.  Crysis, however, I scale down to a 1680X1050, I think.

That chart doesn't say what CPU it's running on.

Unfortunately, VGA charts can only serve as a snapshot in time of relative performance levels between cards. They may not even be 100% when it comes to that. GPU companies cheat on their drivers to artificially inflate reported performance. Drivers are written specifically to optimize performance on a particular canned time demo, and then huge increases in performance in that game are ballyhooed to the waiting press.

So keep some skepticism while looking over any source of benchmarking, unless you've gone to the trouble of creating your own time demo, and have access to the cards you want to compare.Tongue

Here's an example of actual gameplay benchmarking versus canned demo result:

There are disadvantages to this method as well, as the results of this website cannot be easily verified by looking at the results of other testers. However, note that the average FPS here is just over 25FPS. In this test, shaders and water were set to "high" for the 9600GT SLI setup, while the 8800GTX was able to also run textures at "high". So the settings are not entirely medium. However, these figures are also a far cry (pardon the pun) from those reported after running the canned benchmark.

Again, the figures above are for comparison's sake. Relative performance, given the drivers available to the testers, and the ptach version of the game, on that day- nothing more or less.

Joker3, I think the 8800GT could reasonably be expected to show performance between that of the 8800GTX and the 9600GT, probably closer to the 9600GT in most cases than the 8800GTX.
