So I need a new computer pretty bad. I've been using a 7 year old XP with just an onboard graphics card, so i figured it was time to upgrade. I compared the different things on DS, but im not sure how it'll perform in real life. It's about 7 grand, which isnt a huge problem...but i'd love to be able to save some extra money obviously. I was going to purchase the Hanns 28 inch display, but im wondering if the 3D monitors are actually that great. Im plan to play games like Bad Company 2 and Crysis. Any response is greatly appriciated. Thanks

yes that is overkill. lol
the 6 core CPU won't help in most all games right now, BC2 will use 6 threads, so if you go with the Intel 930 you still will have 2 thread left over for background apps.. I don't regret my 6 core one bit, and I know that is the trend, more and more cores, but the need for more than 8 threads is not there for gaming.. yet. lol so if you have the $$ to get one great, but know that it will not be much help.

The ASUS RE III is a great motherboard, for multiple GPU's it does very well with the added power connectors for the PCIe slots, that is its biggest advantage over the Classified.
12 GB of RAM will make it much harder to get a high overclock.. I imagine you will be around 4.0-4.2Ghz  still very very fast, but 6Gb is all that you need for gaming, now, and in the future a ways... I would rather have 6Gb of 2000 Mhz for a gaming machine.

For your primary hard drive, get an Intel 160Gb SSD, if that is not enough room then get 2...on a rig with this budget, you would be neutering it with the 500Gb regular hard drive.

The killer  2100.. I would pass, the cheap Intel NIC cards have proven to do the same thing, and the gain is very limited any ways

The LED fans are loud, but you also have a fan controller, so after some tweaking you should be able to quiet them, yet have good performance.

with this setup I hope you have a good quality monitor, 26" or bigger. If you plan on running a smaller monitor, the 3 GTX 480's will be of no good... they will only work at about 1/2 power max.. lol

Alright so youre asking if this is overkill to play bf2?
hahaha.... well you could build a decent bf2 system for about 1600, so yea.

as far as your choices, you could get a faster build for the same price, if you were to buy what you have listed here, about 30% of your systems power would never even be seen, but hey, its your money to spend. I would personally change several things

I would definitely go down at least to 2 480s

personally i wouldnt go for the 980, but thats your choice

12gb ram is overkill, 6 is plenty for gaming

like the mobo choice

you should really go for a solid state drive with a system over $2300, it is worth the investment.. and do you really feel your will use 2 TB of space? think about how much that is
i would pick up an 80gb intel and a 1tb storage drive

power supply is fine, opticals and case choice are fine

drop the internet card, thats a waste

definitely get an asus xonar sound card, way before an internet speed card

liquid cooling is of course a good idea with a system in this price range

you certainly do not need extra fans in a system that is completely water cooled. plus the case already fills every stock fan slot, i think
no chassis drilling, again liquid cooled, this is not needed

no noise package, trap noise trap heat.
if you know anything about overclocking or are willing to learn, you dont need to pay to get to 4.2. i just did that on a i7 875, with your cooling option it will be easy as crap to beat that speed

everything else looks good

Ok thanks a lot guys! This should shave off a couple hundred dollars lol. And any word on the whole 3D gaming thing? It sounds super cool, but I'm not sure if it would be worth it with this system

dont make a decision based on one "i heard" post

i personally hope 3d dies, and hate it, but if you like it, look into it a little more, see if you can check it out in person before buying imo
