This post is for anyone who is considering buying a digital storm laptop. I will provide you with honest commentary on my experiences.
Before I begin, if this post is deleted, I will repost the complaints to follow on exponentially more enthusiast forums/group sites than I already have. Also, for clarification, this is about THEIR LAPTOPS AND SERVICE THEREOF. The laptop is an amazing performer. Also, I have been told that their desktop service department is completely separate from the laptop department, so I cannot speak to that. I am undergoing an RMA process for my digital storm xm15. It should have been simple enough - the charger jack started heating up one day, and it got to the point where charger plugs would be melted in it. I set up an RMA. After a few days of phone tag and botched email communication, I finally got a shipping label/number to send the laptop to Freemont via FedEx with. I thought, "this was just a little road bump. The rest will go smoothly." How wrong I was. They received my computer on March 7th. It is now April 16th, and I am not in possession of my laptop. I made many phone calls ( you reach the same rep no matter what number you choose in the automated menu ), played phone- and email-tag for days, and only now have been told that my computer is supposed to be delivered by the end of today. The turnaround time is 6 WEEKS, given that I receive the computer today. THAT IS ATTROCIOUS from any customer service standpoint. DO NOT BUY A LAPTOP FROM DIGITAL STORM UNLESS YOU ARE UNCONCERNED WITH THEIR ABILITY TO REPAIR IT IN A TIMELY MANNER! I am a full time student at the University of Pennsylvania. I have limited time to spend on the phone hounding a company to do what it said it would do. In the end, the computer repair was covered under warranty ( which I would respect and appreciate if it had been completed in a reasonable timeframe ), but they wanted my to pay $150 to buy charger to replace the one that was melted and that I had to destroy to even remove from the charging jack. I can buy the same charger online easily for <$80 ( actually, I already have ). You can contact me with any questions about my experience with digital storm at adam.farabaugh1 AT gmail DOT com |

@adamfara,
I'm sorry to hear about your experience. I completely understand how you feel and in all honesty this has been a unique experience as the charger's connector for your laptop somehow fused/dislodged inside the unit. I do wish that we would have resolved this sooner for you, it'll be a learning lesson for us to ensure that if this type of situation occurs again for our customers, we're able to get this resolved sooner. This process took longer because your unit had to go to the actual chassis manufacture for service to get the part replaced. In addition, there were some misunderstandings/issues with how the issue occurred and whether it would be covered in the warranty. I'm glad that we were able to repair it for you without charging you for the repair and that the unit was delivered to you today according to UPS. I hope that you're able to enjoy the unit and that there are no further issues. Feel free to contact me directly at any time: [email protected] and I'll be more than happy to help.
