I just ordered a new computer with the ASUS Xonar Essence sound card. I want to hook up a speaker system and a headset to the card and be able to switch between the two with ease. What is the best way to do this? AV Switch? Receiver? I'm thinking about the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 speakers and a Sennheiser headset.

First off congrats on the asus xonar stx its a pretty amazing audiophile soundcard. The asus xonar has a built in headphone amp so you definitely want your headphones plugged into that input. As far as hooking external speakers if im looking at this correctly the input is a 3.5mm jack on one of the speakers. You would want to use the RCA line level outs to a 3.5 adapter into the speakers. This is hands down the best part of the stx, it uses a very high quality burr-brown dac for these outputs. You should be able to just switch the inputs from the sound card control panel to headphone/2 speakers(rca out) while having both plugged in and having no need for a switcher or anything.
