I mostly use my PC for ONLINE gaming. Going to be playing FFxiv soon, then the new StarWars and Terra. Other than that I surf the web some and read email, don't watch movies or anything else. One of the main concerns I have is I want my PC to be as quite as possible, but I don't want to use liquid cooling because I just know some day I would have to flush and refill the system and I don't want to take a chance on spilling liquid in/on my PC.
That said, check out ticket 432116
Haf 932 case
Intel 15 760 2.8 quad core
evga p55m sli intel p55 chipset
750w digital storm certified dual sli compatible silent edition
1tb hitachi/seagate 7200 rpm 32mb cache hd
dvd-r/rw/cd-r/rw 24x/48x
nvidia geforce gtx470 1.2gb includes physx technology
air stage 1 high perfoemance cooler
upgrade chasis with zalman performance fans
noise suppression package stage 2
no over clock on precessor or vid card
no OS, as i have a shiny brand new never used full copy of Windows 7 32/64 bit
that was bought by a friend then not needed so I stole it in anticipation of when I got a new PC
I am disabled and live on Social Security disabily so $ is a huge concern for me.
I really see no reason I need a i7 processor for the way I use my PC. I know FFxiv has some serious system requirments but I am pretty sure the above build will run it fine in low settings, and from what I have seen of FFxiv I am proably just going to be playing it till StarWars comes out anyway which I am almost sure will not have such high system requirments.
So, basically, does this build look solid, and is there anyway to make it quiter without going the liquid cooling route?

fixed
avoid the insulation turning down the fans will keep it quiet
the noctua cooler will be a lot quieter than your cheaper choice
literally no reason not to overclock, youre shooting yourself in the foot if you choose not to
upgrading the case with zalman fans isnt needed and will certainly be louder than the hafs large fans
you can go back up to the 932 case if you like, just trying to keep your cost down, the difference is minimal
liquid cooling is not quieter than the noctua u12p

you might want to post your total budget for your build that way the fine people of the forums can create something within that budget.

ok after looking all on the interwebs and stuff here is the build i am thinking about now
432149
according to the Haf 922 specs online it comes with dual 120 mm fans for the top so I see no reason to upgrade there. and it also in the review shows the supplied fans keeping the system very cool, so i think i won't need the cooling upgrades for any reason. my only question now, is the noise reduction stuff worth the money? i am trying to save as much money as i can and if it isn't going to really quite the system down i quess i don't need it.

The top fan should actually be a single 200mm.
I don't think it's worth it in the least. I have Lilim sitting on top of my desk not even 2 feet from my face, DS rates the HAF 932 as tied for their loudest case yet I can barely even tell she's on. |

hmm ok, i am completely not computer savvy, so i could easily have misunderstood the part about the fans up top. so the air stage 1 noctua dual fans up top are proably needed then?

the top exhaust comes with a 200m fan, but i believe there is enough space to fit 2x120 mm fans
i dont know why you would..
you dont need noise reduction with the 922 or 932 if anything else is running you wont even know that it is on, if you need it dead silent, just get the stage 1 noise reduction to tune the fans down some

The extreme cooling options are meant to cool the processor. The stage 1 noctua dual 120mm fans are attached to the CPU, inside the case, cooling it off. There not "up top". just wanted to clarify. And yes, they are needed for overclocking, and you most definitely want to overclock the processor.
Nah, the noise suppression isn't worth the money. These cases are quiet. Unless you replace the fans with zalmans, in which case they will be loud. |
