Thanks to !ender_ changing his logic halfway through my decision making process (
![]() ) I am now trying to reconcile myself to the concept of SLI.Apart from the added cost the increased noise concerns me. Not just from the second card but from the more powerful PSUs. I know this subject is boring to a lot of people but any advice or comments based on experience would be welcome. I should say I'd probably go with the Raven 2 or Assassin case and 2 X 480s. |

lol what did i do??
wasnt my comment in your thread about silent cases?
i cant speak for technps as i cant find any reviews on them (the dso certified brand) but i can say from personal exp that both the corsair 750 and 1000w are inaudible when in a case. the fan may pick up speed as you increase load, but since that would almost always be while gaming, you still Edited by !ender_ - 30 Oct 2010 at 11:12pm |

Thanks !ender_! Very helpful as always.
Btw. I only meant you changed your mind about one vs two video cards. I think your guide originally recommended only one. Haven't you started recommending two now? Got me thinking about the implications. |

main thing is budget, for quite some time there was an overwhelming majority of sub $2000 budget posts, it seems more recently that this is not the case. youll see in the guide that i take the chance to add a 2nd card as soon as budget allows. the thing to remember is that 2 weaker GPUs on a single card or in SLI / crossfire are not better than a single faster card
also, times change quickly... when i started outlining that guide i thought, based on what i had read, that 2 cards was overkill, but the more i read and tesed on my own, the more i found that average fps was the heart of most of these reviews, when the fps really needs to be graphed to have any worth, minimum matters too, but you have to see it all together, not to mention new games get more demanding by the day
the guide is still correct, financially, it is unarguably best to get a single card and a 750w psu. best bang for your buck at this point has not moved up from one card
its a complicated thing to explain the friction point between getting the most out of your money and wasting it.. depends so much on the user and the situation... so the guide approachs this idea from the bottom up, from the lowest budget possible to the upper range of using money vs wasting it Edited by !ender_ - 31 Oct 2010 at 12:23am |
