Quick question: How often do you turn your computer off (powered down)? Is it better to leave on all the time, put it to sleep, or power down every night?
The reason I ask is my old Cyberpower I had a few years ago went thru 3 power supplies in two years (one time taking my hard drive out with it). Then when I bought my previous PC from DS 2.5 years ago (550w psu) I pretty much left it ON all the time, would power down maybe 1 time a week at night. I got a new DSO system last month that's running a 1k PSU and I'm just wondering what everyone else does as far as power options. I've been putting this unit to "sleep" more because I know it will draw more juice. But I'm having issues when I "wake up" sometimes it freezes and keyboard mouse does not seem to reinitialize.
So what would the recommended use be for this? thx

Does anyone know what would be "recommended". Would it affect the life of the PSU if you power on/down every day?

This basically comes down to common sense.
The major advantage of leaving a PC on is for convenience. If you use the PC multiple times throughout the day, leave it on. As turning it on and off repeatedly will shorten the lifespan (go try it with a lightbulb or any electrical device). If you use the PC only once at a certain time of day such as 4pm - 6pm. When you only use 2 hours out of 24, leaving it on is pretty stupid don't you think? Edited by skyR - 26 Nov 2008 at 2:32am |

You can substitute the two methods with something in between such as Stand By mode right? Where only like less than a watt or something is only running? And simply pressing space bar will bring everything up once again.
Using Stand By mode helps avoid the whole life span issue right? |
