Can someone walk me through the process of checking what my current overclock speed is at? What programs to download or use, what to run while what ever else is monitoring or what not.. I would appreciate it.

Make sure you run something that stresses your CPU though like prime95 because DS uses an overclock that only goes on when it is neeeded.

for checking oc/vcore/mobo/rametc: CPU-z
for checking gpu stuff and ocing gpus and setting fan speeds: MSI Afterburner there are many apps to stress test your system, I like fah: follow my fah guide here when checking your oc, you want to make sure the cpu is under load/stress. the same when checking temps for parts, you want to make sure that part is under stress and then you want to max loud temps lower then 85c. |

kane860....Another voice heard....A quick check is to run CPU-Z while running Windows Experience Index, under Computer > Properties.
It's not an extended stress test but gives you a quick peek at vcore and oc speed when stressed. DST's fah guide is great for seeing what's what under load, the health of the chips. Good to run at least once to test.

So I have CPU-Z open and I actually just tried to run Prime95. What am I supposed to notice in CPU-Z that will tell me what my overclock is it? Under the CPU tab, I do see Clocks (core#0) and I do see the core speed changing and it went up to 4300 mhz which sounds like that is what I should be looking at since DS told me my overclock was set to 4.3ghz. So is this correct then? |

Yep, you got it. The cpu-z core speed is Oc speed, in your case 4.3 and farther up is the core voltage, vcore, which is probably 1.4 +/-. SpeedFan and MSIAfterburner are used for fan control. I messed with them but my temps were great so I left them alone. They're busy programs and take a little effort to tweek but worth knowing.

Which fans are you wanting to control? Depending on the fan and your setup there is a good chance you wouldnt be able to control the RPM of a fan (at least not via a program). Other things like GPU fans are easy.

I was curious if I could control the RPM's of my top exhaust fans, the side panel fan, the front fan and the rear exhaust fan.. so I guess I want to know if I can control all my fans lol
Also, what are normal temps for CPU? I did stress test with Prime95 and my high temp is 77 degrees celcius (170 degree fahrenheit).... is that good, bad, normal, average???

Your case fans you can't control, any fan connected to the mobo can be controlled.

smp is the name of a cpu client for fah, it uses the cpu to do heavy calculations and puts all cores to work like they were mules, so you were running smp and it was green and your max temp was 77c? if so that is good temps, remember for cpu and gpu we are looking for temps under 85c.
