Ive actually never done the Partition thing; was curious if anyone knows exactly how; and where I can get full complete instructions on doing it with a Dual OS and 2 Hard Drives; I have a 150g Raptor and a 500g HD. I have XP Home & Vista Premium 32bit.
When I did my Full Clean Recovery the other night; it was 4am and just was too frustrated to deal with reading about it. So I just let it be with XP getting the C Driver (raptor); and Vista getting the D Drive the 500g. But it was originally sent to me with 75G on each OS and 250 on each OS. Actually it worked kind of wierd; I had a choice of using C & D on XP; or C, D & F on Vista. But yet it seemed when looking at the Config that the driver partitions were split equally between the 2 OS. So I didnt want to mess with it and just went for the setup I mentioned above.
I may just leave it as is and get another raptor drive if I go for 64bit Vista; and use that just for gaming. So any knowledgeable person could direct me to an Accurate Instruction of how to understand HD's better I would appreciate it.
Thanks
Chris

I'm far from a technical genius, so I couldn't answer this question anyway. However, I have viewed this post 28 times.

Well, generally you setup a partition when you're installing an OS. Otherwise you'll have to use a partition program like partition magic. As for how, it's rather simple once you know what you're doing. XP will ask you what partition you want to install the OS on. Just create a new partition out of the unpartitioned space and install the OS on it. After that, when Vista asks what drive you want to install on, go to the drive options. Then select the option "create drive" or "create partition" I forget exactly what it's called. After that, it's the same thing as XP. That's really all there is to it. Partition magic is very different, but as there are literally hundreds of guides online about partition magic, I won't bother leaving instructions.

You can do it in vista whenever you like
http://vistarewired.com/2007/02/16/how-to-resize-a-partition-in-windows-vista/ just shrink the current volume, and make the unformatted space a new partition. I couldn't get it to work, but dozens of web pages have this same process. |
