I found a old pc today and I am trying to take the parts off. I want to get to the processor but the heat sink won't come off. It must be a old one because when I looked on the internet, other people's popped right off. I used a flathead to try to pry it open but I didn't want to break the motherboard. Any Ideas of how to remove it?
I guess I could just yank it off and break the motherboard.

If you need I could post pictures or something.
Thanks

Do you have a 12 gauge laying around?      Just kidding.    If it goes back to 2004 or so then its probably a Athlon 64 with single core.     Not sure anything today would fit its socket but research might prove me wrong.    If taking the screws out that mounts it to mobo doesn't work then it could be the heat paste has dried and seized the cooler to cpu.

Tidxgor goes way back maybe he can shed some light.   Sorry, Tidgxor, couldn't resist.

Ill probably just throw it away, the thing is a piece of crap anyways. Would you know much about the motherboards of a Dell Pentium 531S?

The 531 (Prescott) series was LGA 775 if I am not mistaken. Since those are several generations in the past now, you'll likely have to go second hand to get one, if you need one that is. If you are just curious as to what you have, then that's much easier. Big%20Smile

Oh its just related to post count. It really doesn't mean a whole lot. The only statuses on the forum that really mean much are the "Verified Customer" and "Official DS Employee" icons below a forum avatar.
