Long wait for that new Ryzen CPU!
This is a very nice Lynx build with full HydroLux cooling for CPU + GPU! I can provide a couple comments on the build. I'm assuming budget or personal preference has you using the smaller mid-sized Lynx case instead of the roomier Velox or Lumos cases. DS will fit it all in Lynx just fine, but Velox or Lumos would provide a bit more elbow room and airflow if by chance you hadn't looked at them.. You are using a less expensive older generation Asus Tuf X470 mobo in the build that will work just fine, but the X570 is the new generation AMD chipset motherboards...and if I was getting the latest greatest Ryzen CPU I would want all the new more future proof features an X570 board would provide. If you select the MSI MPG X570 Pro Carbon or Asus ROG Strix-E you get new PCIe 4.0, 2.5 Gbps and Intel Gigabit LAN, Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax)...latest USB ver 3.1 A & C ports ...and both boards cost more but would allow you to drop the add on USB wifi dongle. Also...you have DS RGB fans here, but an upgrade to Corsair LL or Ml Series RGB fans would allow fan and RGB color control using Corsairs excellent iCue software and included Corsair Lighting Node Pro module included. Corsair offers longer warranties...DS only warrants parts for 1 year unless you upgrade their DS system Parts warranty to 2 or 3 yrs max. Same would go for higher quality Corsair Vengeance RGB RAM or Dominator Pro RGB RAM...longer warranties than DS. That is my suggestions on the build. In gaming it should be a very strong rig at 4K or 2K resolutions and Ultra game settings using the top of the line RTX 2080 Ti water cooled. As you have selected the new 12 core Ryzen CPU, I assume you have uses in mind for this rig that can take advantage of the extra cores...as gaming really doesn't require or utilize all those cores... nor the 32 GB RAM. !6 GB is all thats needed for gaming alone,. but RAM is pretty inexpensive right now! Thank you for the feed back Buck! Ive changed the mobo and switched to the i9-9900k since i will be mostly gaming, I orignally picked the amd because it was cheaper. Was wondering if you had any experience adding storage devices to a DS build, since I want to bring my SSD and hard drive from my old computer over! |

You shouldn't have any trouble. Your old drives can each use a SATA data cable to connect to one of the open SATA ports on the motherboard you select. Depending on what motherboard you select now, should be a total of 4-6 SATA III drive ports and 2x M.2 SSD drive ports to use. Your new Drive1 (C:) will hopefully be an M.2 NVME SSD.

You could probably look up how it is best done on YouTube and get to watch whole videos about this process. Your new Digital Storm pc will have a new copy of Windows 10 on the new Drive 1 and your pc will boot from that new drive C.
When you mount the two old SATA drives in the new rig, Windows will likely require assignment of new Drive letters. |

Your new computer will not look for Windows on your old SSD unless you tell it to. It will boot from your new primary C drive, and the new Win version DS installs for you. It will continue to do that as long as that drive is the C drive.
You can then delete your old version if you want to reclaim the space for other use. Just FYI, I migrated an HDD from my old DS rig to my new one with a fresh clean install of Win 7 on it. I intended to set up a boot to Win 7 option on start up, but Widows was smarter than I, and recognized this new one was not the machine my Win 7 was registered to. Although I have a cool "choose the version you want to boot to" screen on start up, the Win 7 won't work. |
