Okay so... I have a TON of games that I have purchased over the past year. I just buy them and buy them and never really play through them and find myself just jumping around between titles and not making any true progress. I think a lot of it has to do with playing a lot of Titan Quest, which I like to play casually so it doesn't leave time for other games. Plus, I work and have other things going on so I don't have a ton of time, period.
Well... I need some help!! Here is a list of games that I have an have not yet really played. Which should I play first? or to make it even more fun, in what order should I play these in?
The Witcher
Bioshock
Fable: The Lost Chapters
Portal
Half life 2
Half Life 2: Episode 1
Half Life 2: Episode 2
Prey
Condemned: Criminal Origins
FEAR
Far Cry
Doom 3
oh and did I mention I was planning on going to Best Buy to get Crysis, CoD4, and Gears of War over this weekend? I might have to hold off on those

Cool, I get to go first, if I type fast enough..... I've only played four of these. They're all great games. Well, FEAR isn't really a great game, but it's great fun if you just want to shoot the
1) Half Life 2
2) Farcry
3) BioShock
4)FEAR
I actually like Farcry better than HL II, but you gotta play HL II. Edited by Bill the Cat - 27 Nov 2007 at 1:13pm |

And I thought I was game heavy!
I have HL2 and HL2 episode 1, Crysis and Bioshock. Played HL2, three times, but only half of HL2 episode 1. Bioshock I made it to the end boss but am saving it for my new system as my old system just don't cut it too well.
Crysis is still wrapped up sitting on my games to play stack. I did the demo on my old system and it was a sad state of afairs. I have played COD4 demo on my old system, didn't look "too bad" but I just haven't got around to buying it yet.
I also have Stalker... that chugs on my old system. I also have Doom 3, and the second episode of that, both of which I never finished.
I am going to hold off on buying any more until my system arrives and I rock through all of what I have (again). I hope anyway that I can resist.
Oh, and on top of buying the system, a few games in waiting, I have also in the past few weeks bought a new 22 inch Samsung monitor and a new router and new wireless thing for my new rig and even a new Razer gaming key board and a new track ball mouse.
Yes, I am a spending machine. I have lost much of my mind. Good thing I am not married. As long as I keep buying my pooch her food and treats, she never complains.
She is actually also looking forward to the new system. Its our quality time in my den together!
Now, if I can just get the bank to let me stop making those pesky mortgage payments! Edited by Dog Lover - 27 Nov 2007 at 2:29pm |

The Witcher - Currently playing this myself and it's a lot of fun. Good casual gameplay game. Easy to pick up quests where you left off.
Bioshock - Great story! Not the best FPS, but it has a nice RPG quality to it. Fable: The Lost Chapters - A must play for anyone who's a fan of action RPGs. A great game with a fairly good story.
Portal - I love this game, if for nothing other than the voice acting.
Half life 2 - An obvious must play. This is one of those story lines gamers will talk about for the next decade at least.
Half Life 2: Episode 1 - A great addition to the Half Life 2 game.
Half Life 2: Episode 2 - Another great addition to the series.
Prey - Not so great. Looks good, but they tended to use gravity as a gimmick. Ending was bad as well.
FEAR - The AI makes it worth playing through a few times. The story is good, not great, but good.
Far Cry - I never beat this game actually. I have plenty of fun running around the jungle, but if you're going to get Crysis, don't bother. As they are just about the same thing in gameplay, but the super powers you get in Crysis are better.
Doom 3 - Do yourself a favor and try to play this with the open Co-op mod. Two players running through hell are better than one.
As for what order to play them all in? I have no idea, since I'm in the same boat. However, if you're getting new games... Try Timeshift! First game I've played all the way through in a long time. |

Do you really need to be told what to play first? You actually need the help of people in these forums to help you make a decision like this? ![]() |

Get in the spirit!! He is just board at work or school and is helping the rest of kill time as well.
As for what to play. It has been along time since I bought a new game. The only real time I buy a game is when I stop playing my current mmo and pick up another. My last mmo being wow and since my computer went bad on me soon after I have not really benn playing anthing. I do like to keep a nice FPS on hand to keep me busy tho.

No, of course not, but I thought it might be fun to get people's opinions on where to start if not just get opinions on the games overall.
Ugh, I also forgot to mention that I have STALKER... too many to play!

Well, I guess I could overlook one's inability to actually pick what
game to play first and have someone lift the spoon to your mouth and
feed you.

Haha, it's funny that you bring this up because I also made a list of the games I have, or am interested in, ready for when my new rig arrives. And once I had the list made, I began to ponder the order.
I picked up Crysis because Fry's had it the first week so cheap, but my old system can't even push the demo, so its still in the box. Otherwise I'm very interested in COD4 and the Witcher, so I'll probably pick those up within the next week or two.
And I also enjoy giving my old games another play through on a new rig. Many have plenty of fun left in them, and I love being able to push the graphics all the way up and see them the way they were meant to be seen. On that list is: Halflife 2 and the two expansions, Titan Quest, Oblivion, Doom3, FEAR (and maybe pick up the expansion), and a few others I'm forgetting now.
Then once I've exhausted the few new games and played through the old, there are some games that came out the past year that I skipped due to WoW and having a lackluster machine, such as World in Conflict, STALKER, Bioshock, and Company of Heroes...
In fact this pretty incredible backlog is what convinced me to get a new machine...

Jugger, I haven't played WOW in 3 months. I have been on it like crack for 2.5 years and felt like I wasted my life. I am a FPS guy. I have missed out on so many games.
WOW is fun, I was in a great guild, an officer even, and have a lvl 70 and a lvl 29 twink.
But, it started to feel like work. Like I HAD to log in and grind and help guildies and such.
I am going to try to break the WOW habit when my new rig arrives. Get back to my roots. FPS. Meeting new and interesting people on line and killing them........ In 30 minute to an hour time frames. And then move to another server!

DL,
My son arrived two months ago, and life with the little guy is lived from nap to nap :) There's no chunks of time that WoW simply demands in order to see real progress. The wife and I have played side by side for the past few years, and we played with a great guild made up mostly of local players, some coworkers, and a few friends. It was a good run, but the instances where my wife and I can both sit down for a good while are far and few now. If we do get the chance its for a quick bit of PvP and that's about it.
FPS's, RTS's, and single player RPG's are much more suited to my go-stop-go gaming trend now.

Yes, I understand, Juggernaut.
Before WOW, I played just FPS and was all about Battlefield 1942 and the series for multiplayer. WOW because a chore. I mean hours upon hours in an instance was getting hard. I never had time to just run around and have fun like I did at a low level. I got to the point I HATED it. I feel bad at times to think of all the real fun I had at gaming until I got hemmed up in WOW.
I probably won't go back. With the crazy rig I have on order, it would be a waste to play WOW on it! Now, if I could just find someone to sell my account to! HA! Tons of gold going to waste!
And I have been playing the Crysis and COD4 demo's on my currant failing rig and even with poor graphics, its fun again!

Heh, that's why I'm staying far away from MMORPG's ![]()
Word bro! With my busy schedule now, during the weekdays I can only get on and enjoy a game for maybe 1-2 hours (at most!) so FPS games are perfect for me. Especially games like CS:S where the rounds are very short so when you do quit, you don't feel like you're quitting during an epic battle like in maybe Halo or something ![]() Edited by Nomad - 27 Nov 2007 at 8:14pm |

Zactly, Nomad.
I remember the good old days of all of the BattleField Series. You jump in a server, croak some enemy for a round or two and then split. Its not like a MMOROG where you say "hey, I am tired all, I got to split" and then they hate you for life cause you now screwed up their quest, group, instance.
And I am all about a FPS, First Person View game. It gives me more satisfaction.
Ya, WOW is a drug, it must be. I have no other clue why it sucked me in for so long. I think alot of it had to do with the guild aspect. I started out as a nobody and worked my way up through the ranks as an Officer, lvl 70 in a 385 member guild. One then starts to find themselves working every night, not having fun.

Yup man! I have the Battlefield 1942 Complete Collection and boy have I had some good times with that! I'm thinking about getting BF2 cuz nowadays that's like the defacto multiplayer game ;) But come to think of it, I'll prolly be picking up COD4 so that'll prolly be what I'm spending my time on heh But yeah third-person-shooters have never gave me the same experience that a good FPS can give. It just feels sooo much more immersive. Heh yes, WOW is an addiction lol |
