What do you mean by "hybrid laptop". I'm a bit foggy on what you mean.
*Edit*
Upon googling, I love Google BTW, I think I know what you mean. It looks like a niche commodity to me. I can't comment on whether DSO will or won't try something like this, but it does look like Dell is the only company making a trully portable system. HP and Sony both have "All-in-ones" that use laptop parts to reduce a desktop computer down to the size of the screen, but both of these need external power and are not really make for carrying around at all. Dell's is a monster, more akin to carrying around a small desktop than a 'laptop'. http://news.cnet.co.uk/laptops/0,39029680,49273823,00.htm To my eye this thing is easily 10 times bigger than the laptop in the comparison pics...a trully scary concept and at curosry glance, isn't available for sale yet.
There is another type of option comming up too, and again I don't know if DSO will do it or not, but AMD/ATI has developed an external GPU system for laptops called the XGP. Unfortunately it requires a special type of plug so it's not as simple as just buying an XGP. None of the giant retailers haved picked it up yet but it looks like Fujitsu is making one to use the rather dinky Amilo (the first XPG with a 3870 card in it). Now if I can get a small 13" laptop that I can carry around with tons of battery life...and take it home and plug it into a 4870x2 XGP and a 30" monitor I'd be golden...but alas this is just over the horizon and threatens never to rise.
To me the Hybrid laptop would still be a laptop, just with a bigger screen and a little more room for beefier parts, but it still won't compare to a desktops power. Even the XGP option is far inferior to a desktop as you will still be limited by laptop CPUs and whatnot. But atleast the XGP allows you to have a tiny laptop and some solid-ish gaming when you have your XGP with you.
