As the title says, I ordered my first gaming PC ever from digital storm a few weeks ago and I'm currently on stage 5. Does anyone have any advice or tips on how to make the most out of it? I've mostly played on Playstation my whole life.

Congrats on your new Digital Storm system coming. Please share with us what type of system you bought. I never really played games on consoles much. 12 years ago, I bought my first digital Storm system and started playing games on it when not doing other computer stuff.

I just upgraded myself to a new Digital Storm system last month. It definitely plays games well at Ultra graphic settings. I play Red Dead Redemption 2, COD Modern Warfare, COD WWII, Grand Theft Auto V, COD Black Ops II, Metro Last Light, Forza Horizon 4, & Marvel's Guardians Of The Galaxy.

I did breakdown and buy a Microsoft X-Box Wireless Controller for the racing game primarily. My motherboard has both wireless & Bluetooth which made it easy to connect to the X Box controller for better driving in games.

One of the things I like best about gaming on the computer is that I find myself playing a game then surfing the internet or watching a video before I play another game. Just nice to be able to do everything in one spot and do them all well.

I notice on the internet that there are a number of articles comparing PC to Console gaming giving the Pros & Cons. Since I am not a big gamer and just play intermittently, I will be watching to see how the more active gamers on the forum respond to your question.

Welcome Aboard!

Congrats!

Foremost, as a (previous) Playstation owner, did you subscribe to their game service? I see Playstation Now is available for Windows. You do not need to have a game service subscription, most titles can be purchased/downloaded individually (via the Microsoft Store or GameStop, for example). However, game services are convenient and cost effective if you like to try new games. And in the case of PS Now, you would have access to titles you are already familiar with, including Playstation exclusive games.

Some other services:

Steam
Xbox Game Pass
EA Play

In addition, as @Onkel_Ken mentioned, game controllers are a nice accessory (depending on the types of games you prefer). I use an Xbox One controller and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate with my gaming PC.

Assuming you have used a (Windows) PC for things besides gaming, the learning hurdles might be the slightly different method of finding, installing, and uninstalling games (which varies by service/store) and using a keyboard + mouse to navigate -- games that support controllers may still require you to use the keyboard and mouse for menus, etc.

There are holiday sales on right now for a few more days at Steam, Origin/EA Play, and Epic Games to name some major ones.

Epic games is a fairly new service that is trying hard to attract attention. RIGHT NOW, until about Jan 6, they are offering the latest three Lara Croft games fully upgraded absolutely FREE. There's no catch. You go there, order the games, and they are in your Epic library ready to download when you get your computer.

IMO, the EA Play or EA Play Pro subscriptions are an excellent start for a new PC gamer to try out all kinds of late model games. I don't have one because I don't have the time to make it the great value I think it is because I have a sizeable unplayed backlog, mostly from Steam, I'm trying to get through. I've been buying games from Steam sales for years.

You will likely find that gaming on a PC allows much more freedom to choose a controller that fits each game the best. Allows access to modding communities that can enhance gameplay on some favorites beyond belief. And will often streamline every aspect of your gaming experience if you invested in the right parts. I'm 73, and I've been having an immense lot of fun playing PC games for 36 years.

The last console I purchased for ~my~ use was a PlayStation 2... been PC ever since but I have always had different input devices that include a console controller. Like a joystick there are some games that just don't really translate to K&M (keyboard and mouse).

Additionally there are many, many different options for input devices. If you ever get into flying or racing sims your choices of steering wheels, yokes and pedals are numerous.

Congrats and enjoy your rig!

I have had my rig now for 7 years from digitalstorm, upgraded the hard drive to 1tb SSD to work with my 2tb 7200rpm hard drive, up to 32g Ram, added bluetooth, and upgraded the video card to RTX 2070 some years back and it still runs high end games out today (although my last upgrade will go to RTX 3080).

Been a console guy for years, the Xbox one and PS4 pro are my last consoles. PC gives you so much freedom in gaming, and customization in what you want to do.

Maybe wait as little as 8 months and get a 4070 that will outperform the 3080 at a much better price? Could take that long to get hands on a 3080 anyway. Just a thought.
