Graduating from college and looking to reward myself. I've been looking around the past few days and settled on this build. I'll be running a single 19"-23" monitor and would like to be capable of playing today's RTS and FPS games such as: Battlefield 2 BC, crysis 2 and Empire Total War. Ticket # 517346
Specs: Chassis Model: Special Deal Hot Seller - Maelstrom Processor: Intel Core i5 2500K 3.30GHz (Unlocked CPU for Extreme Overclocking) (Quad Core) Motherboard: ASUS P8P67-M PRO (Intel P67 Chipset) (New & Improved B3 Revision Without SATA 3G Issue) System Memory: 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Digital Storm Certified Performance Series (Highly Recommended) (Hand Tested) Power Supply: 750W Digital Storm Certified (Dual SLI Compatible) (Silent Edition Recommended) Hard Drive Set 1: Operating System: 1x (1TB Hitachi/Seagate (7200 RPM) (32MB Cache) Optical Drive 1: DVD-R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 24x / CD-Writer 48x) Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Video Card: 1x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 1.2GB (Includes PhysX Technology) Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Extreme Cooling: H20: Stage 2: Asetek Liquid CPU Cooler (120mm Radiator) (Great Value) H20 Tube Color:- Not Applicable, I do not have a FrostChill or Sub-Zero LCS Cooling System Selected Chassis Airflow: Standard Factory Chassis Fans Boost Processor: FREE: Overclock the processor between 3.6GHz to 3.9GHz Boost Video Card: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my video card(s) Boost Memory: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my memory Boost OS: - No Thanks, Please do not tweak the services on the operating system Windows OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium (64-Bit Edition) Recovery Tools: Windows Recovery Toolkit (Bundled with Windows 7 CD) Price: $1600 shipped, unless DS wants to give a discount for a new grad ![]() I don't want to spend very much on a GPU. I can't justify getting an i7 over the i5 for the price. Let me know what you all think. Thanks for your time! Edited by monarch - 07 Apr 2011 at 12:34am |

Eh, I think it looks good honestly, you're more looking for the middleman approach I'm assuming for gaming rigs, and are fine with just going with what works with your budget, correct?
Only things I'd change is the cooler to a Noctua U-12P, since it performs equally if not better, and some have known the Asetek to leak. The HAF 922 is also a better case as regarded by some here, or in my opinion, I'm a fan of Silverstone Raven series cases heh, and their RV03 to be released soon is looking like a nice airflow contender as well if you wanna wait for that Raven'ish look. Raven's just me though, your choice ![]() Edited by ablahblah - 07 Apr 2011 at 12:58am |

ablahbla,
I'm on the fence about the LC vs AC. If the AC performs similarly, I'll opt for it. No risk of leaks would be good. I switched cases to the one you suggested. Thanks for your help. |

The Asetek unit is technically LC, but in reality, it doesn't store enough fluid nor does it have enough of a heat dissipation surface to be as effective as a true, custom built LC system. It's go the whole hog, or be left behind.

Got it, changing that aspect of the build. I appreciate it. I feel pretty solid with the rest of it.

I would change more then just cpu cooler, but first the res of a 19" and a 23" could be very different, so we need to know what res you gonna be gaming at first.
I would change many things about your build but I need to know the res first. |

19 inch monitor running 1920 x 1080 res. I'm trying to stay in the $1600 +-$100 shipped range, but if I am making a mistake I'd like to know. If I can get a big difference for the extra $100 or so I'll do it. I don't feel like I'll need an i7 if I'm just gaming. Thanks for your input.

Thanks for the help. Unfortunately, I ended up buying everything from newegg to build myself. I figured I might as well while I have the time to do it. It should be a rewarding experience.
