My friend just got a japanese computer and the OS is in japanese. Can he just install say an american...english...windows XP? Wouldnt that just wipe out the japanese vista it has on it and have the english OS installed?

ok so he puts in the new os disk and then looks for the format option? so if he misses it...will the puter now be a duel boot? i think he just wants the english xp. he and i never put a new os on before... so not sure of anything.

he can also install it OVER his previous OS, allowing him to keep all his information, however, it would be a lot cleaner to use something like an external HD to save the files

My xp had some option where I can boot to the cd then enter the advanced repair options, basically gives me a command line. Its running off the cd so i can just format c: :)
