Hi looking for a suggested build, my knowledge of PC's is novice at best.
I'm looking to spend somewhere around $2500. I already have a monitor, keyboard, mouse etc. I'm looking for a quality machine that won't feel old in a year. The main use for the PC will be gaming along with normal everyday web surfing & a small music library. I will also use it for movie watching here & there & streaming TV shows. My monitor will be a 27" @ 1920x1080 resolution. My questions are mainly hardware related. Is it better to go with a Sandy Bridge chip at this point or is there still bang for my buck in the other Intel chips? Being that I will be storing media on this PC would it be a good choice to go with a modest SSD for the OS & a couple games & a larger HDD for my other storage needs? I would prefer a nvidia video card, but I have seen the 570 recommended over the 580 for the most part. Is this this strictly because of the value or is their not a noticeable performance difference between the 580 & 570? If I don't end up with a SLI build now I would be looking to add a second (or third) card in the future, should I consider having the power supply capable at this point or just cross that bridge when I get there? On the case, my home seems to attract dust, my pets probably help in that regard, I have also seen the HAF case suggested a lot but looking at your configurations it looks like the Hailstorm case is the Corsair 800d. I really love the Corsair case but is there a specific reason one may be better than the other in your experience? Sorry for the essay, just trying to get all my thoughts out there. |

I gave you the haf 942 cause it has dust filters. but if you clean your case once a week, dust filters would be pointless IMO. haf has better airflow then 800d, 800d is more for LC systems IMO. there is a 10 to 15 fps gain with the 580 in some games, however its not worth the extra $200. sli 570 will be about $100 more then a single 580. the above build is just an idea, tell me what you think and we can change stuff around. Thanks for the reply. The build you suggested looks pretty good, but I have one question. What are your thoughts on a blu ray drive, write capabilities optional, but would that make any sense or will it take a bit for PC games & software to make the migration to that format?

I think there will be a new format out before everything moves over, you can always drop one of those in yourself later.
