I purchased an air-cooled Velox about 18 months ago, and it's been an amazing machine. It's quiet, reliable, and super fast. I finally upgraded from the RTX 3090 to a RTX 4090, and it was super easy thanks to the spacious interior of the Velox.
I just performed some benchmarks, and the results are impressive: Shadow of the Tomb Raider: • Resolution 3840 x 1600 (ultrawide) • DLSS off • HDR on • Mostly Ultra settings with a few tweaks • Speed of old machine (RTX 3090): 87 FPS • Speed of new machine (RTX 4090): 154 FPS • New machine is 77% faster Portal RTX: • Resolution 3840 x 1600 (ultrawide) • Graphics settings: Ultra, with a few tweaks • RTX Remix settings: Ultra • Speed of old machine (RTX 3090): 25 FPS • Speed of new machine (RTX 4090): 65 FPS • New machine is 160% faster I was really surprised how poorly Portal RTX performed on the 3090. It's kind of shocking that any game could bring the 3090 to it's knees like that (only 25 FPS.) This is clearly a game that requires the latest generation of graphics cards. Fortunately, the 4090 brings that game up to a minimally acceptable level (65 FPS.) The version of the 4090 that I got is the MSI Suprim X. I really like this card! It's super fast, and very quiet. It has two BIOS modes (Silent and Gaming.) Both of them seem to perform about the same, and both of them seem very quiet. I'm leaving it on the Gaming setting. As you can see in the attached picture, the MSI Suprim X is a huge card. However, it fits in the Velox easily. |

Congrats. That machine is now ready for the next couple of years. Love the Noctua. Thank you for sharing and the images. Enjoy. |

What brace is that on the GPU? Was looking at braces and most are small , from the drive bay you have yours sitting on that’s about 7-8ish inches space.
I’m getting the same in the mail Friday for my Velox case, it seems most braces are like 128mm (5.6”) |

That's the standard brace that comes with the MSI Suprim X 4090. It's one of the reasons that I purchased that card.
The Velox has its motherboard mounted upside down, and that puts the graphics card very high in the case. I needed that long MSI brace to deal with it. |

Ok awesome that it came with the brace, smart job on MSI.
Took a bit deeper searching, found a brace that goes 10” will hold 2 cards if needed. From that drive bay, plenty of room for the brace. Thank god I picked the velox case those years ago. Replacing the 850w Corsair PWS with a 1000w and getting the Asus Rog Strix RTX 4090. Looks like it’s gonna nearly cover my other PCIe x16 slot because the card is huge but that’s ok tbh. That’ll leave just enough space to use a PCEx1 slot for the 2.5GB nic card on order since we got a speed boost in the area. Modems at 2.5 already, router can go to 10gb, which will sit below the last PCIE slot being used by the sound card (yeah got speakers hooked to optical cable cause I’m a nerd) |

That's nice to hear that you're getting a 2.5G NIC card. I upgraded my home network to that speed about 6 months ago, and it's working great. There aren't too many servers that will feed you data at that speed. However, Steam sometimes hits about 1.8 Gbps It's lovely!

Well all that went to hell in a handbag :(
Router/nic card and the switches netted me an extra 400+\- MB increase in speed, so that was good. The Corsair 1000w went in super easy. Now for the bad. ASUS RTX 4090… ain’t gonna fit Mainly due to the water tower. (I bought the custom cooling with the hard tubes and water tower from Digital Storm, went thinking that would cause me future problems. Guess my measurements when I checked was off by 1/4 inch. The water Tower is on a mount and so obviously I checked the highest PCIe slot and even though it would clear the tower. That left two problems. A) can’t refill the solution with the card and B) the pins/connectors for every thing is above the top PCIe slot, even just the USB connector would need some jury rigging to allow for such a behemoth GPU to press up against it. So yeah, I’m probably looking at a $300-$400 restocking fee to return the GPU or even more if I get stubborn and convince myself to rebuild a velox to accommodate the GPU. Which I suppose wouldn’t be to bad, a more current CPU, MB, etc is never a bad thing. |

You could replace your water cooling system with a Noctua DH-15S. That's what my Velox has, and it works amazingly well. Plus the 4090 fits. :)

The Asus Rog Strix RTX 4090 is big even for a 4090 so that could be the issue, though I'm guessing you used that model for your measurements anyways.

Yeah, saw the measurements and knew it was gonna be close, but most of had a brain fart when I measured the inside of the case. Don’t know what I was thinking, but then again it was like 3am when I ordered it lol.
Thinking I might as well go all in now. Though my station is in pristine condition, kept it very clean and maintained, I just realized it’s 4 years old as of this July. Which is like 100 years in computer age. What was top of the line then is gone and buried. Waiting for DS sales to call me back. Most likely gonna rebuild with todays higher standards, hoping they can use my GPU (live down the road from them, can drop all the parts I bought recently.) if not, I’ll return the GPU for a loss and just go with a new build regardless. I’m an old gamer.. way old. Since my VIC 20, to the Tandy 1000 and my first 286/386 PC.. but these days I can’t trust my hands and eyesight to ripping out complex components like the custom hardline water system DS installed. So , I’ll let DS rebuild. Aways been an intel cpu buyer because of a bad previous experience with AMD chips blue screening wasn’t great, but then you realize that was around 20 years ago and thier design has come a long way. So thinking of taking a chance on them again. The AMD 9 7950X3D or the AMD 7 7800X3D since this is just a pure gaming platform and I do my video editing/productivity apps on my laptop. |

Yeah, if you're thinking about upgrading several parts, then you might as well get a whole new DS system. I bet they'll find a way to fit that 4090 into a Velox.
If not, I would highly recommend the MSI Suprim X. It's a monster card too, but it fits in my Velox. It's also crazy fast, and very quiet. |

Well, once I started playing with the system builder there was no coming back.
I do a lot of video rendering on my laptop, as my current Velox is games only, no internet browsing, emailing, productivity apps. So im gonna retire the lap-top and put my current Velox in its place. Even with its 4 year old chipset, it’s still a faster pc. (Tbh I despise laptops, seems no matter how brand new, they still struggle at common apps) but anyway I’m getting off topic. So yeah, I ordered my 2nd Velox. This time for future building reason only went with the standard Aio cooler instead of the hardline tumbling I had in this one. Don’t get me wrong , the hard lines look gorgeous, just that you do loose space and unless you’re willing to drain and tweak them later on at home, best for me to get a sealed system. I’ll get some more RGB strips to make up for the loss. Going off memory, I ordered; Velox Case, been my favorite case I’ve ever owned. AMD 7 7800X3D (crazy benchmark and reviews over the i9 13k & AMD 9’s ASUS ROG Strix X670E-E 64GB DDR5 6000MHz Kingston FURY Beast RGB 1500W Corsair HX1500i (Incase I need to jumpstart my truck) 2TB 980 PRO m.2 for the boot drive/apps 4TB Kingston Fury m.2 for the games library 10TB HDD for deep storage/recovery/Backup RTX 4090 The rest is fluff. Now…I wait. Edited by Dondomingo - 25 Aug 2023 at 11:59am |

That'll be a sweet system. You're gonna love it!
I think you'll enjoy that 1500W power supply too. Yeah, it's overkill for the amount of power that you need, but those high-watt Corsair power supplies are super quiet. That's one thing that I love about them. I have the AX1600i, an the fan rarely even turns on. |
