I've tried to get an answer to this and another question on 2 of my other forums and no one is answering. I need a gaming mouse. I have a cheap $12- Logitech mouse that does exactly what it's supposed to, no more, no less. I want a mouse that was especially designed for gaming. I play all games, FEAR, FEAR2, Spore, Oblivion, Fallout3 and I'll be putting Dragon Age origins on my DS rig as soon as it arrives which should be any day now. Sarah wrote that she'll get me a tracking number from shipping tomorrow.
So, tell me about gaming mice, tell me why you like a particular one and give me a link to it if you can.
  TIA

BriSleep:

I have tried almost every mouse out there. And it really depends on what you are looking for: basically saying you want a gaming mouse isn't too accurate for me to give u an exact mouse.
But I will give you some tips/choices of what I like:

Razer mice are very good these days. If you want a cheap and good mouse, I would recommend the Razer Diamondback.
Logitech has also a couple of mice out there, for example the Mx518 is a great choice, and it isn't that expensive either.

If you like mice that are made for right hand only: mx518, G500, G9X, Deathadder, Roccar Kone.

Ambidextrous: Diamondback, Lachesis, Krait, Microsoft intellimouse 1.1, Steelseries XAI.

My reccomendation is the Razer Lachesis. I played competitive CS source gaming a couple of years in Norway. And I ended up playing with the diamondback. The Lachesis is an upgrade from that, with almost the same shape. But better resolution, which means u can aim more precise. And the Lachesis can handle fast movements, if u play low sensitivity as well.

I think it really depends on how much you're willing to spend gaming mouses range from cheap stuff like your logitech to the $110 razer mamba.

Personally I was given a coolermaster sentinel by one of my friends, even though I have little use for it since my rig is so outdated it can barely play Unreal Tournament 2003 without hangups. I was also given a HUGE coolermaster mousepad which wouldn't even fit on my desk.

Anyways up till now it's always been cheap trust mice and the surface of a hardcover book and the the difference was night and day. For nostalgia sakes I even revisited a few of my childhood favorites like CS and Age of Mythology, and while it wasn't a uber game changing experience having a proper mouse made gaming so much better.

I can't say anything about the other mice but I can vouch for the coolermaster sentinel, amazon has it for $52 which a bit cheaper than the Lachesis, and apparently it also has a higher dpi, but as I said before I never used razer mice before so I can't really say if it makes a difference.

MX518 is fantastic. The buttons tend to wear out, though. My scroll wheel went in about 2 years, which is still a pretty good timeframe, but for 50 bucks I would expect more. Others have complained about the right click going in a few months, but I think you get at least a 1 year warranty... not sure though.

I think it's down around $30-40 now, so it's well worth it IMO.

I don't know the max speed of the Coolermaster Sentinel.
And I think you have to know the max speeds/accelerations in g's to eaven consider a mouse like that.
Most Lasers skip. The newest don't. The Lachesis does not skip.

Razer lachesis has a 3rd generation laser sensor.
If you like the diamondback's shape, I whould buy this mouse.
If you don't like the diamondback's shape, you should not buy this mouse.

I like the DeathAdder. I originally bought the Lachesis, but it's weird shape - made for lefties & righties I assume - gave me hand cramps and I returned it within an hour.

The DA was cheaper, it's got a nice rubberized grip to it, and I found it very comfortable.

What I would suggest is to go to Best Buy or some other store and check one out in person - don't order a mouse over the 'net. BB has the Razer line and more than a few logitech's also. You can test drive one that way, and if you take it home and it doesn't work out, easily return it.

One thing about Razer, their drivers are dodgy at times. I installed their driver and set the mouse DPI and sensitivity, which is written to it's firmware. Then I uninstalled their driver and went with the one Windows Update downloads.

I use a copper head in my daily use work rig, and a death adder for my gaming rig, I like the death adder better, fits my hand/wrist better, but seem about the same in quality, and I to use the windows drivers, and not razer's.. lol\
Mouse pad is just as important, I think, I use the steel series glass ones, and love the combination.. others may not like it..

I actually just asked this on this forum not too long ago.  Everyone was very helpful (thanks guys).

What I found is that you have to look at how you grip the mouse first then go from there.  After you find out what grip you have then find out the mice that will fit that grip and then look at your budget for that list of mice.  I went through the Razer Lachesis (like others this mouse actually hurt my wrist a bit during use. however if you claw grip your mouse then you may really like it), Razer Deathadder, Logitech G500 only to find out that I really don't like to palm grip a mouse.  I post my palm on the mat and use my fingertips to steer the mouse using high sensitivity.

The logitech G9X is my favorite so far.  Very good for fingertip grip and has a great 'lift off distance" to the sensor.   The sold seperate 'ID grip" is awesome.

also...I have a VERY lightly used Razer Deathadder (the new 3500 DPI) that I would sell for $30.00 plus shipping to anyone interested.

Psimon: The Lachesis is an ambidextrous mouse. That's why people say it hurts their mouse, because they hold it with palm grip. It is obviously made for claw or fingertip, because of its odd shape. It is really easy to see this on the picture of the mouse. Anyways, I wouldn't doubt about getting the Lacheis. It has good DPI, good speeds, looks not too wierd, and is used by a lot of gamers around the world.
