I have two systems in mind an Intel based and an AMD based:

Intel: 408493

AMD: 408494

Which do you think is better? What would you add, remove, change? My budget is under $2000.

I have never bought a custom built gaming pc before, so, I need as much advice as I can get.
I've read through http://www.digitalstormonline.com/dslabs/expertfaq.asp and they prefer Intel over AMD, Nvidia over ATI. I don't care really. I just want to get the most performance for the money. My AMD build has 6core AMD cpu, Intel one has 4core cpu, does it make that much of a difference? Big%20smile

Thank you in advance. Ouch

Is the system primarily for gaming? What monitor resolution are you gaming at? Forget AMD, has nowhere near the capabilty of the Intel builds here. Your budget, you don't have to go there. Check this thread: http://www.digitalstormonline.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=10789
I could do a build for you, But DST4ME is gonna see your post and explain why some of your chioces don't work far better than I can.  Evil%20Smile

Hi! Yea, the system is primarily for gaming. I'm planning on getting Samsung XL-2370-1 23" (1920 x 1080)
I guess I will go with Intel then Ouch

for that res you gonna want a 480 or 5870, we need to make many changes to your build.

but first I need to know if you want this system to be able to handle 2 x 480 or 2 x 5870 in the future, or just one card is all you want knowing you can't add another gpu.

I was thinking about HD 5770 in Crossfire, however, after reading on it seems one 5870 is better than two 5770s. I will definitely buy another card in the future. So, i guess I will go with a single 5870. It will put me slightly over the budget, but its okay. Not by much anyway.
Also, a question, does SSD makes a difference when gaming? Should I just get regular HD instead? That way I can choose 5870 2GB Sapphire 6-port edition.

what types of games are you playing? If I understand correctly about SSDs, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, for an mmorpg it probably won't make a significant difference. SSDs load a lot faster, but an mmo is from a diff server so it shouldn't matter. However, if it's loading maps and anything else straight from your comp, I think it makes a big difference.

I mostly play mmorpg's. For now I play them at lowest graphics possible. (boo) With the new pc I really want to try games like Metro 2033. Right now, just mentioning the game's name makes my pc smoke...

hah ya. My comp keeps crashing and is on its last leg. I'm ordering my new DS comp soon :) I'm also torn about the SSD. DST, who has been really helpful for me, sees it as a luxury and on a tight budget it's probably better to invest in a better GPU or something.

for metro you need 2 x 5870 or 2 x 480 to get decent fps at 1900 x 1200, thats not gonna be in teh budget.

whenever possible stay away from sli/cf, single card solution is always best, cf/sli have bugs.

1 x 5850 is better then 2 x 5770, so 1 x 5870 is much better.

if you want 3 year warranty, we are not gonna be able to add all this stuff (2 gpus for games like merto) or ssd and etc.

I will go with 5870. crossfire is out for now at least and so is SSD. I don't really need SSD, just thought it would be nice to have it.  Ouch Will add 1TB instead.

Cool  Thanks for looking into my build!

My pleasure

you can add ssd and etc later, specially ssd, its real easy, if you gonna be moving os to it then use my clone guide to make it super easy.

you can follow my clone guide here

the reason we buy these pcs from DS is that we can pick and choose our parts and by doing so we can leave room to grow down the road, saving us lots of money vs buying a new pc.

I have one more question, not about the built but about the monitor. I wanted to get XL2370-1 but now it seems PX2370 is newer and better...? and then I found Acer G245HBMID 24". I've scanned through so many monitors that I'm lost now :/ Any advice? I want +23" and the price shouldn't go beyond $350.
Anyone? Anything? Big%20smile Thank you! Ouch

Most people here recommend ips panels, so you might have to bump the price of your monitor up to around 400

Okay, IPS panel. Squeeze out another 40.24 and it's yours. HP ZR24W. 24", 1920X1200. Got mine today and it's fantastic. Used Cost Central out of Erie PA - 390.24, no shipping. Got review here: http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/hp_zr24w.htm
And you can buy it here: http://www.costcentral.com/proddetail/HP_ZR24w/VM633A8ABA/11108332/

That HP monitor looks awesome! One thing though, is 7ms good enough for gaming? I'm pretty sure the image quality is better than the new Samsung PX2370 (well, d'oh it is an ISP Big%20smile ) How do games look on yours? Any ghosting?

Oh and thank you for giving me the site where to order it from! MUCH cheaper than HP's deal! :)

I just got it, but it's been great so far. The colors and texture details are amazing, and I'm coming from a quality CRT, not some low-end TN panel. This is the best video I've ever had. And it's so bright, I turned it down from 80 (of 100) to 45! You're gonna like this monitor.  Thumbs%20Down
