Budget:
Around a $100

Expectations:
I want to upgrade my computer and was wondering what was holding me back and what would be the easiest and cheapest way to make it run better. My Computer was once pretty good, but its out of date now. Here are my specs.
-Hewlett Packard
-Pavilion
-Intell(R)
-Pentium(R)4 CPU
-3.00GHz(x2)
-1.50 GB of RAM
-180GB Hard Drive
-ATI Radeon X1950 Pro

Usage:
I want to be able to run games smoother. I don't care about running games at max settings. I just want to be able to run ,say Starcraft 2 with out lag when I do more then 2v2.
Thank You for Your Time

are you talking about fps lag or isp lag? most games will run sooth enough to play comfortably at 30 fps. most of the tiem when people encounter lag it is due to their isp. try to avoid games where your ping is high to reduce your lag if it is isp related.

if i am correct that is a integrated gpu... gaming is mostly gpu power not cpu. although your cpu is very old it holds true to min specs for most games. i would see what gpu cards you can get for $100. it is going to be a ati/amd card most likely in that budget.

are you pci-e 1.0 or 2.0 or 2.1?

tbh there is not much that can be done other then a gpu upgrade for 100... and that's DIY ( do it yourself)

www.newegg.com is a great place to look for hardware. they have a lot of items with free shipping, that's always a bonus. for about a 100 bucks you could grab either a nvidia 9k/200 series or ati/amd 5600 series. how ever after you install the card make sure to disable the integrated graphics card and update your drivers.

also you may want to start saving for a new computer... 20-30 a week for a year will get you a pretty nice rig or at least take most of the burden off. tbh its what i do... started after i order a rig i put 20-30 a week away for my next one, by the time my computer has reached its paperweight state i can buy a new one with no stress on me or my wallet. if you think about it 20 bucks 4 years later is just over 4k which puts you in a position where you can buy almost anything you could possibly want

I believe your best bet is to save your money for a new computer, that one is not really worth upgrading.   But that is just an opinion.

Theshadows324,

I would say honestly the best thing to do would be to save up some money for a new PC. I know most people would prefer to upgrade, but there also unfortunately comes a time when hardware gets so out of date that the best course of action, and the wisest way to invest your money is to purchase a new PC. With the technology world the components just seem to change so quickly, its easy to fall behind.

If you do decide you would like to purchase a new PC, I would be more than happy to assist you with any questions that may arise during the process.
