Getting ready to put a build order and trying to figure out if I should go with the i5 or the i7 CPU. Have been doing lots of research but still on the fence. This will be a gaming pc for flight sims (MSFS 2024 (don't have specs yet), IL2, DCS, etc..) plus city simulation and grand strategy games. I like to stay with Intel vs. switching the AMD.

Additionally, looking to go with 1000 watt PSU, and the 4070 TI GPU running at 1440p at 144 or 240hz.

I know that i5 is overall a better choice for general gaming, but for flight sims the additional cache might be better. I am planning on air cool vs. liquid.

So, for those that have the i7, do you have any issues with excessive heat especially in summer months?

Anyone else running the i5 or i7 with MSFS 2020 or other flight sims?

All suggestions are welcome. Thank you.

For the most part, gaming is (obviously) GPU loaded, not stressing the CPU to the fullest extent.

According to a previous cooler review, the NH-D14, their testing environment had/has an ambient temp of ~24ºC/~75ºF.

For the new Intel CPUs we've increased the temperature limit in BIOS from 100°C to 115°C, to get a better feel for temperatures without thermal throttle getting in the way. We also did a round of testing with the Noctua D15 to get a feel for temps with a more powerful cooler (indicated by "D15" in the charts).

Thank you. It looks like i5-14600k might be the way to go given about 10 degree in difference.

I have a 4-year old i7 with a RTX 2070Super, 32 GB Ram with a DS air cooler on my Lumos - 1440p Alienware monitor.
I play DCS with no known temperature issues.
