Hi I recently got my rig and was hoping for possibly a higher oc, is it possible that speed step might be on? Here is a screen shot, I really have no idea how to oc my self lol.

20 x 160 is 3.2GHz.
with turbo mode, 21 x 160 is 3.36GHz If that was taken idle, you don't have speedstep on. Even if you do have it on, turning it off won't give you a higher number. If you want a higher overclock, you need to raise the bclock to 200MHz for 4GHz while lowering the multi for memory, qpi, and uncore so they remain stable (bclock influences every part of the cpu). |

You should read about overclocking an i7 first on the forums. If you are confident, understand it, and are not a total newbie with electronics. It's worth giving it a try yourself. It's very easy and it seriously does take someone who is a dumbass to kill their PC doing a moderate overclock.
If you are a total newb with electronics, I'd call and get Digital Storm to walk you through it. |

temps are okay for idle. you have to do a stress test for at least 3+ hours to check for stability and temps.
HT is hyperthreading which gives you a virtual core for every physical core. So with a Core i7, you would have 8 cores in total. You can keep it disabled or enabled. Just a matter of what you going to be using the pc for. Edited by skyR - 28 Dec 2008 at 10:20pm |

most games don't use more than 2 cores so =\
use orthos or prime95 to stress test your cpu. |

I'd keep it enabled
run prime95 for at least 3 hours but 6-8 is highly recommended if you are a heavy user. Edited by skyR - 28 Dec 2008 at 10:29pm |

prime95 stresses better so I'd go with that unless you have compatibility issues or something. If any core fails stability test, you need to lower your clock or increase the vcore.

6-8 hours. or 3 if you don't really care about stability or you aren't a very heavy user.

did you remember to lower the QPI, Uncore, and memory multis? maybe lower your bclock to 180.

vcore is recommended to be under 1.37 for 24/7 use. but if you are using 1.5v and you can't get it stable, that means you have to lower your clocks/multis.

I put the it down to 1.3 which I belive was default and set it to 190x20 going to try testing it now. If I can come out with a stable 3.8 ghz I wont bother going for 4. I am a novice as it is.

Im not sure what mobo you are using, but on the EVGA website there is an awesome OC guide for the EVGA mobo. The tech's will even help you through it. Not sure how different it would be for an ASUS mobo though.
