Edit: Since I already made this post about my OC, I figured I didn't need to start a new thread.

Old Subject: Determining CPU OC
Well I guess I'm just a little confused.. When I Right Click Computer -> Properties, it says i7 CPU 940 @2.93GHz   3.64GHz.  When I run CPUz , under Clocks (Core #0), the Core Speed goes between 3808.4MHz and 3811.xMHz.

Does that mean the CPU is actually OC'd to 3.8GHz?

Well, I was playing around on overclockers.net and I posted this (Below the picture is someone's comment):

"that looks like a badass OC. Only 1 volt haha." Original Thread (I'm not sure on posting links to other forums. If I'm wrong, please correct me! Thanks)

This got me thinking... he said "ONLY" 1 volt... I think the biggest issue I'd have with trying to overclock my CPU anymore would be heat (Max Temp 71-74*C on the CPU Benchmark in 3DMark Vantage)

As far as OCing the Core i7s, am I supposed to mess with voltage as well as multipliers?

I'm having trouble finding info.

That is a badass oc if cpu-z is correct saying the vcore is at 1.0v

When overclocking anything, you're suppose to mess with the clocks, multipliers, and voltages.

You also have a very poorly seated heatsink or you put your PC under a thermal blanket if your temps go up to 70c with 1.0v =\
The only thing that keeps me wishing on a wishing star.

I was wondering that too. in BIOS it's 1.45 V, and here it's 1.47 V.

Dunno what's up with CPUz

Speaking of poorly seated heatsinks.. is it normal for the 3 cores to run 4-5 degrees hotter than the 4th?  Would it be possible that they used a thermal pad instead of paste, and would it make much of a difference?

I've only seen it get over 70 when I run benchmarks or Prime95.  Other than that, when playing something like Tomb Raider Underworld at 1920x1200 on the highest settings, I dont think I've seen it get over 50*C.

I looked up the PDF for the CoolerMaster V8 which is what I have on my CPU, and it shows it coming with Thermal Grease, so I doubt they used a thermal pad.

Thanks =)

I think I'm going to reseat the heatsink still.. I ordered some IC Diamond 7 Carat TIM, along with the ArctiClean set.  Hopefully I don't screw anything up!
