Thank you sir, I owe it all to you...Big%20Smile.

Highest ambient temp was 29C during testing.  I have since added a RX360 rad and another DCP 4.0 pump.  I'll do a linx run and show you the results.   And you are right, it took a lot more volts to get 4.4GHz stable than it did 4.2GHZ.  Here it is at 4.2.

On my 990x the "sweet spot" was around 4.5Ghz, the voltage increase compared to Ghz increase when up dramatically from there.
Maybe somewhere in the 4.3ghz your CPU will be best compromised?

After you commented on the voltages, it reminded me that the voltages I was using was for a higher Bclock that I could not get stable...lol.  So right now still in the process of seeing how far I can lower the voltages.  After that is complete, I will try the 4.3ghz range.  Thanks again for your input, as always it's greatly appreciated.

Was able to lower Vcore a few notches, and was able to lower VTT from 1.41 volt range to about 1.36 volts.

getting there.  I like to see the QPI link over 3500, and you are just under, so pretty close.  Temp still a touch high, but you seem to have very high ambients.

I always run prime, and Linx, max mem 50 passes, just to make sure.  I usually run Linx first, because it is a quicker way to find the right V core.

You should only need 1.3-1.35V on VTT for that RAM speed.   QPI PLL? and northbridge voltages?

Then you can start messing with the RAM settings Big%20Smile

1.25v - 1.30v (+50mv - +100mv for EVGA boards) is usually enough for 1600MHz RAM or below on 950s.  I've had some chips that were fine with 1.2v (+0mv).

Thanks! I know the DS forums are a very helpful place. I'm still just at the point where I need to keep reading some of the basic guides, describing what does what. In that past, I had very naively assumed that auto was the best setting, since I figured who better to regulate such things than the PC itself OopsIm%20with%20Stupid

My ambient ranges from, if I am lucky, in the morning about 19C to 21C and in the afternoon it's about 27C to 29C.  Plus having three OC'd i7's in the same room does not help much either...lol.  I am going to have to work a little harder then to get my QPI link over 3500...Big%20Smile.  Thanks for the info on running linx first, as always it's appreciated.

Was able to get VTT down to 1.31.  PLL is at 1.81 and IOH is at 1.27.  Tried dropping the IOH to 1.24 but BSOD'd, so raised it again to 1.27 and running linx now as I type.

And yes, plan on messing with the RAM settings once this is stable...Big%20Smile.

Thank you Tidgxor.

For me it took a lot of reading, asking Justin a lot of questions and a lot of BSOD's...lol.  As Justin stated, feel free to ask questions.  Justin is a great overclocker, and I have been able to learn a lot from him.  I am sure he can help you get past the basics...Big%20Smile.

And Venom, thank you for in the info.  Unfortunately, I have not been able to get the OC stable with the VTT less than 1.3.

you have QPI PLL as an option for voltage?
I have had good luck running the IOH up to 1.35v  really depends on the setup though, 1.275-1.3 usually is a good spot.

you can always mess with Uncore speed to, see if it can boost your G flops, of course you know 2x RAM speed is minimum, but raising the multi one clock at a time might yield you some better results, I have seen some gains up to around 5000Mhz on the Uncore.

what are you running your PCIe freq. at?

No QPI PLL option, only CPU PLL.

Speaking of Gflops.  In your experience, how many Gflops should I be shooting for?  Thank you for the uncore info. I understand what your saying about raising the multi may get better results.

PCIE frequency is running at 115.

115 on Pcie  lol that is plenty, hopefully no mouse/keyboard dropping ?
G flops seem to vary a lot from run to run, so it is far from an exact benchmark, I usually run 2-3 passes 3-4 times to get an average, then after I make changes do the same, to compare, and see if it made any improvement.

Rholyrag, sorry to interrupt your discussion again, but could you (or anyone really) recommend any specific articles to help learn more about the ins and outs?

No mouse/keyboard dropping at 115.  It was running at 105, but I raised it after doing some reading to see what effects it had on the oc.  Gflops are at 55 right now.

And Tidgxor, I have found this guide here to be helpful for me.  Even though the article mentions to keep most of your settings on auto, I have learned from Justin that you want to manually adjust your settings.  Auto settings has been known to use more voltage than actually required.  One thing I have learned is that how to overclock is very subjective.  As a beginner, start low as the guide suggests and work your way up.  It takes time and patience...lol.

Tidgxor, to add to what rholyrag said, I would suggest heavy Google usage. Just start Googling all the different options (Uncore, VDroop, CPU VTT VOLT, CPU PLL VCORE, QPI PLL VCORE, ICH VCORE, IOH VOLT etc etc) to get an understanding of what exactly they do so you know when you do or don't need to be tweaking specific things.

Also set your PC to not automatically restart when you get a Blue Screen of Death, that way when stress testing you can copy down the Blue Screen code. Google the Blue Screen codes and they'll let you know pretty accurately why it crashed and what setting(s) need to be tweaked, like whether it was a CPU voltage issue or a memory voltage issue, etc.

These reference codes from venom helped me out when I went for 4.2GHz and 1600Mhz memory:

Thanks so much for the info guys!  Big%20Smile

So far I'd been pretty heavy on the Google, but it seems like I find so many contrasting opinions (beyond the hard facts). So, again, thanks for the link and info!

I'm hoping to get some time to tinker around with it this weekend.

Took advantage of a cool day.  Here is a linx run with an ambient of 22C.  Also tightened the timings a little.
