Please advise me on the following ticket. My use for this computer will be mostly number crunching apps, and my software can take advantage of the extra cores obtained from the hexa-core chip.

1) What case should I use for maximum cooling and is there anything else that would help, added fans etc, in addition to stage 4 increase cooling so some talent guy can help me squeeze out a couple hundred more Mhz of OC ?

2) You'll cringe when I tell that I am not a serious gamer and this graphics card is more than I need. My DS i7-920 system has the 892 MB version of this card and that is beyond what I need, but is certainly nice to have. Would I be better off with an ATI card like the 5850?

3) Noise surpession would be nice but I have heard that it might affect cooling?

4) I assume this basic wireless card will allow me both wireless and plug in connection to the net.

5) Is 750w power supply enough to handle this. My i7-920 DS OC system is fine with 750w.

In summary if I can save a few bucks by not getting more graphics card or power supply that is fine, but if I spend extra for improved cooling, I am happy to do so, since I think it will allow for more OC.

drop the oc on video card you will see no gains from it.

you will see no gains from os tweak either but if you need one of those services then you are in trouble.

there is nothing else to add to help you, unless you want to order your own rads and fans and etc that is not listed here.

A question about case here since I am soon to order.

Do I need to spend the approximated extra $200 to get the HailStorm case? I am using stage 4 cooling and am told that there's more more inside the Hail Storm Case than HAF. But I only have 1 video card and one hard drive.

Will the extra room from HailStorm result in a cooler CPU for me?

If I stick with HAF, which case is cooler? HAF922 or HAF932.

Thx .. neilkaz ..

HailStorm is more for systems with LC on cpu/gpu, haf has better airflow, so if your gpu is on air, the haf is a better choice.

922 is midtower, 932 is fulltower, I would go 932.

Thx for the advice DST4ME which I think I've followed. Please give this a final review. Again, my primary purpose is number crunching apps, and the games I play (once in a while) are not needing a superb gpu...ie Age of Empires genre, golf, hockey, or a Civ-type turn based. I presume I may even have more of a graphics card than needed here, but don't want to put cardboard seats in a Ferrari.

Thx, I did drop the gpu and os boosts since you told me that they basically are useless.

I have Win 7 Home premium on this computer here (DS i7-920) and am very happy with it.

Most of the use for the new computer will be number crunching oriented. Basically I run backgammon simulations 24/7 and when not, I may run bridge or chess or antenna design or some trading apps all again very CPU intensive. Anyhow, the CPU is cranking 100% almost 24/7. Of course I am also surfing the web or occasionally playing basic games online and if playing something that needs CPU power I stop my apps. My main apps can use every core available and want pure multithreaded CPU power. Perhaps I should look to see if I can get dual or even quad 6 core HT Xeons, but I think we're talking 10k or more.

Win 7 Pro..why would I want that?  thx .. neilkaz ..

oh ya, sorry, I talk to so many people that when I come back to a thread, I forget the details about it, so you are on the right track.

win7 pro for xp mode but I think you told me you have no use for that.

Thx ..DST4ME , I think I'm all set here and will order soon. When this gets here, it will be fun to see if I can add a couple hundred more Mhz to the allready expected superb overclock. Very glad to have stage 4 for this, and noting that I am unimpressed with the cooling from Stage 2 Asetek on this i7-920 here, and will address that once the new computer is here.
