And thus my i7 940 that was factory overclocked to 4.025GHx is running at stock.  I believe the bios has been reset, with first boot I received a CPU fan error (liquid cooled) and floppy disk drive was enabled (and there isn't one, of course).

Checking the bios I don't see any saved OC profile that I can switch to, actually no custom profiles.  I do remember seeing a reference to "performance" somewhere.

Oh, and memory was factory overclocked as well, though haven't heard how much, not overclocked now.

Anyway, I've left a phone message and email at DS, both late in the day Friday so I don't expect to hear from anyone until Monday.  That said, anyone have a suggestion during the interim?  I did power off and switch off the PS, next reboot had no effect.  Would like to test with an OC, at least a bit of one if not the 4.025 that the machine was configured with (at additional cost btw).

Thanks for any ideas, I'm very new to this gaming bios.

Yes, boots up and runs fine.  Here's the CPU-Z capture, though not sure what can be gained by that as the core and multiplier fluctuates as I watch.  3073 MHz is the greatest # I've seen, multiplier 23.0:

Vista shows the 2.93 GHx processor running at 2.93GHz as well.  On my prior rig Vista reliably indicated any overclocking.  That raised my concern, as well as everything within bios seemingly set to defaults (including diskette drive).  Perhaps there isn't really an issue?  Without any saved bios profiles I'm a bit suspicious.  Guess I'm wondering what/where I should be able to see as confirmation of the overclocking.

You have Intel Speedstep Tecnology enabled. It is why your speed fluctuates. It will lower the speed to save power when it is idle (not doing anything) and than raise the speed as you are doing something demanding (playing games, rendering, etc). You can turn this off in BIOS if you want.

Your processor isn't overclocked. Core i7 940 comes at a default multiplier of 22 and base clock of 133MHz which equals 2.93GHz.
The only thing that keeps me wishing on a wishing star.

Ah, thanks for the explanation.  I shall wait patiently until contacted by DS on Monday . . .

An update . . .

Randy from DS called this morning and led me through reconfiguring the bios per the notes from the original OC of my rig.  Yes, the bios had been reset for whatever reason and I now have specific notes (and have created a saved bios profile) to make future recovery easier.

BCLK - 175
CPU voltage - 1.40
QPI/DRAM core voltage - 1.4

I settled on changes that result in an overclock to 3.85GHz approx and am well satisfied with the performance (tho I'm willing to tweak more if there are any suggestions).  Heck, with the 2 GTX280's I installed I can run any game maxed out (Crysis at 2560x1600 very high).

My CPU score exceeds 51k, I'll run more benchmarks later tonight.  Mucho thanks to DS and to Randy for superb customer service.
