I am really curious how far the OC'd it.  I have the same rig.

Here's what I get - however the "Core Speed" bounces up and down quite a bit as I do various tasks - seen it go up above 3000 MHz.  Is the value in QPI Link the OC speed?  BTW - DS did say they got up to 3.6 GHz but had to back off during QA (I did not hear what they ended up at).

I am new to QPI, as I currently have a Q6700, so I am not to sure. DST4ME, might be able to give a better answer, as he seems much more knowledgable than I. Angry As for it going from the 1750 mhz to above 3ghz , that is the Intel Speed Stepping (At least that is what that called it for the Qxxx chips)  It is to save power, I know I have it disabled in my current rig, but someone else here could probably let you know how to handle that.

looks like its overclocked to 2.920ghz think that has a 20xmultiplyer  im guessing that turbo is getting you up to 3ghz   20x 146= 2920

If it is 2.92, that seems like a cautious OC, doesnt it? He could probably push the FSB to 166 couldnt he?

im sure he could but this is a lot different to oc than the core 2 quads I'd do some research first. His core voltage is very low but that could be because of speed step or somthing dont know alot about i7 bios  I would expect that it could get up to 3.66 but every chip is different there like finger prints they all oc differently

I'll do some research myself over the next few days and start tweaking a bit and let you know how I make out.  I'll post in the performance/overclock section with that.

BTW - here's another CPU-Z capture while running an AV scan - Core Speed and Multiplier are higher (looks like both bounce around).  Not sure if that matters.

so is your memory at 1460MHz?

overclocking a core i7 is a lot harder than a core 2 since the base clock controls everything... core, uncore, memory, qpi, ...

Go turn off SpeedStep etc. in the bios and then you'll have a true OC number.

WinkHave not had a chance to do any gaming yet!  I live in New Hampshire and have been without power since Thursday night.  I'm sure Freecell is going to look awesome!

Finally got our power back on Saturday night - we were out for 10 days.  Will start putting the new rig through it's paces in the next couple of weeks.

Santa's also bringing me a BenQ G2400WD that I got at newegg on CyberMonday.  Can't wait to get that set up (under the tree right now).  Then will look for the GTX 260+ to drop in the new year to go SLI.

With your power back on, how is your rig doing?  Temps holding nicely?  Gaming good?  Smile
