Howdy howdy, Long time lurker here... been browsing this site for a while now - at least the last year and a half. May have a post or two under my belt.
Anyway, my old computer went kaput just over 2 months ago so I am kind of weighing my options and have pretty much settled on DS. It's to the point that I know if I get anything anywhere else, I'll regret it. I *almost* bought one a year back or so but went another route annndd I DO regret it :( So - About the i7 extreme 1. It's within my budget constraints - not a benchmark crusher but a nice modest rig that I think I might end up going with. However, I think I want to skip the "liquid" cooling and go with the stage 2 air. Will that allow for a higher OC under load or is the Free liquid cooling still the best option? I noticed they say "OC between 3.3 and 3.8" so do they just attempt to get the highest OC possible and that's what you're "stuck with?" If the Nocturna air is better... for 6 bucks I am all for it. |

Ah, and one more thing - I know we are approaching the holiday season and we are in Q4 so new hardware might be coming out. Is it wise to maybe wait for some even more killer deals or should I jump on what they have now? DS prices are already stupidly good from what I've compared out - but If I can wait another few weeks for lower price, I will. I know I am asking for someone to predict the future but meh... DST4ME seems like he can do that... (compliment.. you're a friggin forum God around here it seems :P )

November should have some killer deals around the holidays, so I personally would wait. ;)

I figured as much. Lewis Black put it best - "Let's call Thanksgiving what it really is, Christmas Halftime."
Kind of offtopic but I mainly play WoW with some TF2 / COD4. Would the i7 920 with the gtx 275 give me some decent framrates or allow me to finally play on "ultra" with WoW without lag? I know WoW is more CPU/Memory heavy than anything and 3GB @ 1600mhz and a 920 @ 3.3g seems like it should give me some nice gameplay... just not sure - never experienced it before :) I only run at 1280x960 anyway... nothing amazing. |
